weird PowerDVD 4.0 problem

when playing a DVD, after 3-5 minutes, the sound gets all garbled up and loses sync with the video. to remedy the problem, i pause the video then play again. i have to do this maybe 3-5 times during a 20 minute session. i'm getting really annoyed about it.

is this software related, drivers related or hardware related?

i see no problems with my hardware, DMA is enabled, and all drivers are up to date. any advice?

Could be sound card driver bug? I used to have an SB Live 5.1 which, when connected to the speakers via analogue cables, had that problem but not when connected to the speakers via digital DIN.

I've recently been experiencing the EXACT same issue with PowerDVD 4.0, and now 5.0 as well. The audio distorts and the video playback goes out of sync.

I'd never ever had this problem before. It didn't start until one day after i'd updated my nForce2 motherboard drivers to address some audio problems i was having with a game (Grand Theft Auto:Vice City). Perhaps the new nForce2 drivers interfered with the old drivers or there was some codec interference occurring somewhere between applications, i don't know specifically what caused it.

So i reformatted my computer and installed all the latest drivers, and reinstalled PowerDVD 4.0. However, the problem reappeared again, only this time it was less frequently! So then i installed PowerDVD 5, which even helped lessen the frequency of the problem even more. Now it only occurs every once in a while, albeit it's still very annoying.

My specs:
Athlon 2400+ (overclocked to 2600+)
Corsair 512MB DDR400
Epox 8RDA+ nForce2 (v2.45 drivers)
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro (v3.8 Catalyst drivers)
Western Digital 200GB hd
WinXP Pro w/SP1

And i don't have this problem at all with WMP, so you know it's definitely an issue related with PowerDVD.

F*ck it, i've had it with fooling around with PowerDVD's bugs. Time to uninstall and look for another software DVD player. In the meantime, my new version WMP will do just fine.

after reformats, ive still never solved the problem. it did appear less frequently at first but they came back again. i tried the demo of the nvidia dvd player but i still had the audio problems. i did try WM9 before the reformat but i dont remember whether it ran flawlessly or not. WM9 as a dvd player was a hard interface to use as i recall.
