I'm currently using a Logitech MX700 as my main mouse. I also have a Logitech trackball that I use for selection work in Photoshop. Today I plugged the trackball into my computer with the MX700 (using Windows XP Pro). Windows recognized it, I set it up using Logitech's software, and it works great. However, when I use the MX700, it's...I dunno, laggy a bit.

The settings are the same as I had them for the MX700, and of course a bit different for the trackball. For some reason, the MX700 acts weird when the trackball is connected. It lags a bit, and sometimes it acts like it's inside a box and won't go higher on the screen for a split second. It's really weird. I don't remember having this problem when I had the trackball and my other mouse connected on my old system a few years back. Oh, and both are USB mice.

Cliff's notes:
-have an MX700 and trackball connected to my box. both work fine
-MX700 acts weird when the trackball is connected. trackball works fine. MX700 goes back to normal when trackball is unplugged

any ideas? this is kind of weird.

Was you previous trackball also USB? Did it use generic drivers? The simple answer to this problem is probably that Windows is having difficulty interpreting information from both ports at the same time. When Windows is doing something extensive on the USB line, all the other ones also have to hang sometimes. Just has to do with how Windows handles USB. My USB mouse goes dead when I plug in my digital camera cord and it won't come back until the camera is recognized.

But I might be wrong because it may just be the USB host / hub thingy being flooded with input. Are these two ports leading to the same USB controller?

yeah but how do I program the mx700 buttons without mouseware? I have them tied to special keys for the software I'm currently using.

fixed it! I dug up one of my old USB-to-PS2 adapters and put that on the trackball. Both work great when connected now!
