weird problems with Epox 8K7A+

AMD Athlon 1.2GHz 133Mhz FSB using GlobalWin CAK38 hsf
Epox 8K7A+
Crucial 256MB PC-2100
3Com NIC

Maxtor DiamondMax 60+ 40GB

fresh installation of Win 98 SE gave me the following problems:

problem:
1. warm reboots will give blank screen randomly. the monitor power is green (signifying power) and the hard disk continues to boot into Win 98 SE.

2. after installation of the VIA driver, autoplay of DVD-rom (my only CD-rom drive) will page pagefault.

now, if, i do not install the VIA and AMD drivers, i do not get problem 2. is it neccessary to install the VIA and AMD drivers? a quick check on system properties does not yield any unknown devices.

note that i've tried the drivers that came with the mobo and also those provided on AMD and VIA websites.

I just installed the AMD driver from the Epox site, and let W98SE detect the rest. Works fine for me.

I use the software in the box of the motherboard and it is fine

however, i still can't figure out WHY the screen goes blank on a warm reboot. the problem occurs randomly which is really frustrating. could it be the power supply?? the DDR SDRAM??

btw, i'm using a 330W power supply. can't recall the brand cos the box's @ home.

It might be a video card. I had an ATI Radeon VE and got the black screen after warm boot, even after cold boot. So I tried another video card (ATI AIW Radeon) that I have and it worked with no problem. Consequently, I sent Radeon VE back.

If you have another video card, try it and see what happens. Good luck!

however, i've been using the Radeon on my P3 without probs.

another question for all:
DMA mode on for my DVD Rom will result in pagefault on autoplay. any idea why??
