Weird video problem

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem with my laptop video:

It doesnt do it all the time and it just started recently. No drops or anything to the computer itself.

I think I know what you're getting at. A lot of HP models had an issue with overheating and the graphics card would do all sorts of weird stuff.

My old toshiba laptop had this same type of problem and it would go away after a while, and then come back.

Yes, I fixed one last month using the motherboard oven bake method. The nvidia GPU chip comes loose over time because of the overheating. OPs screen looks different than some of the others I've seen but it's close enough to suspect it.

It's a Gateway actually. I don't know if its a broken lcd. The computer is over a year old and just recently started doing this.

does it happen on safe mode? or while loading OS?
if yes then try plugging your computer to other monitor and see what happens.

you may also try to update your GPU driver.

it will happen as soon as the computer turns on. That is what worries me the most about it

Try connecting it to an external monitor, if it seems normal, then you got a broken LCD.

I tried it. I get the "lines" on my tv as well
