Weird wifi problem at home

I've got this weird-ass problem that's driving me nuts.

My client's home has a laptop and a PC, both connected to a broadband connection via wireless, which has a wifi AP.

The laptop is fine, but the PC has a slow download speed. Going to the speedtest website will consistently yield a 1-1.5mbps download, while getting 8-9mbps upload speeds.

These are the stuff that I've tried
1) using the usb wireless adapter on the laptop, getting 9mbps download
2) resetting the AP
3) I've made an image backup of the PC a few years back, so I reloaded the image, same results. So I can eliminate the virus factor.
4) I tried turning on my hotspot from my mobile phone, and then have the PC connect to my phone. Download speed was about 5-6mbps.
5) changing the wireless channels didn't work as well

So, if it's not the PC, usb wireless adapter, the AP, then what the hell is wrong??

Would appreciate any feedback.
Thank you!

-edit-
I read somewhere that disabling WMM on some routers will fix this, but I don't see any WMM or QoS stuff on the router, possibly because it's in AP mode and all that is turned off?

Your are not very clear on a few things.

With the wifi inside the PC you get 1mb?
With the USB wifi from the laptop connected to the PC you get 9mb?

Which wifi adapter were you using to connect to your hotspot?

What is the spec and modle of the wifi inside the PC?

Sorry Paul.

Yes with the USB wifi adapter on the PC, connected to the AP, I get 1mbps
The same USB wifi adapter plugged to a laptop, connected to the AP, I get 9mbps.
The same USB wifi adapter plugged to the PC, connect to my phone hotspot, 6-7mbps.

I don't remember the brand of the usb wifi though...

My guess would be that the USB is stuck behind the Desktop and the wal.

On the LAptop is in clear view and with the phone when used is probably placed next to the Desktop.

If so, get a USB extension cable so that the Wireless card can be placed in clear view above the system.

That's what I thought too but I moved the PC to within 4 feet from the AP, no walls, and it's still the same.

We've done multiple speed tests and they all seem to be very consistent - about 0.8 to 1mbps... so consistent that it gives me the feeling that it's being throttled. But I don't see how they can throttle only one device, while the rest are ok.

It's a Asus RT-N12HP iirc. One with the long ass antenna

I will find the pdf for the settings on it tomorrow >_> so if you do not get help by then Ill see what more I can do.

Until then, you may check for an area that will allow you to setup access by MAC addresses and / or throttle traffic by them. That would really be the only way that this could happen other than maybe an IP conflict and your client keeps dropping signal every so often.

Just a few ideas to hold you over until I can assist more

hi fyb3r,

Thanks but i doubt it's got anything to do with the AP though, as the laptop can connect and download fine. I even tried using my phone to connect to the AP, did a speed test and get about 9mbps too. And I did that at the same location where the PC is.
