Hopefully someone out there might know what is wrong here: I just installed a new scsi HD on my system. I formatted it and then loaded a clean install of Windows ME on it.
My system is:
PIII 600E -not overclocked
Tyan Trinity 400 (VIA 133A)
128 MB Micron PC100 memory
Leadtek Geforce 256 DDR
Linksys 10/00 nic
SB Live! Platinum
Adaptec AHA-2940U2W
Seagate Cheetah scsi 18GB HD SCSI ID (0) Master boot drive ( C: )
IBM 18LZX scsi 18GB HD ( D: )
SCSI DVD, CD-Rom, CD-RW Drives
Live! Drive
Loading of all the drivers went fine. I loaded drivers for my NIC and GeForce (5.30) and the VIA AGP 4.03 driver. I even installed Office 2000, rebooting whenever an installation required. After all that, I wanted to defrag the HD before I started to install games onto the computer. I ran MS Defrag and it finished just fine. I noticed that defrag was running very fast. After It finished, I turned off the computer. When I came back to turn it on to install games, WIN ME loaded at 640X480 and at 256 colors. The mouse pointer would not appear and no tray items loaded. It would just freeze there.
Any ideas what is going on here? Just another MS bug? I can't believe that MS own defrag tool would mess up its own OS though : \ .
