No, they made the forum for YOU.

I just offered to help get it started.

Oh ok.

I haven't built an HTPC in a while, I may just convert a Raspberry Pi for the purpose.
I don't know if that would qualify as an HTPC, though.

It seems traditional custom built HTPC's (i.e. full computers adapted for output to TV and with DVR capability) seem to be less a necessity now. When sufficient hardware can be fit on a device the size of a flash drive (such as "Android-on-a-stick" mini PCs) it doesn't seem like there is much of a future for enthusiast built HTPCs. That's just my two cents.

I'm sure we'll have HTPCs builds posted here for a while, but two years down the road... I'm not sure. Even traditional desktops are on the way out - it's not long before cell phones and tablets/ultrabooks are the primary devices wirelessly linking to out monitors and peripherals, at least for consumers at home.

EDIT: You have an impressive setup in the build thread. That's pretty much where I see HTPCs going, more tablet and wireless networked mobile devices.

The tablet playback isn't possible though without the server. And the 65" is directly connected to the HTPC which is hardwired. And you can't store 1000 movies like I have on a tablet.

I see your vision though and one day we might get there. But the other issue is with Hollywood, the studios, your cable company, etc. Its just not that easy even if a tablet was able to be used there are a ton of issues and roadblocks that are going to be there for a longer time than they should be.

Re: the Raspberry Pi --- From what I have been reading it is no where near being ready for prime time. There are quite a few disappointed Raspberry Pi owners over at the XBMC forums. I am still withholding judgement and won't tinker with it until it is ready to be tinkered with.

Well, wanted to say welcome, just paid for the guide a couple weeks ago and was glad to see who was going to be modding the forum here!

welcome to Anandtech.

LOL, he's been a member here for 7 years

But seriously, great to have you modding this forum. Your posts at AVS were invaluable for a mini-ITX build I did for a friend.
