Hey Fog,
I am here to check it out and get a breath of fresh air from the sudhian forum. This doesn't look bad...mostly laptop stuff, but maybe we can make it more SFF friendly. I don't see any bogus contests, flaky PR or false promises, do you? You may want to link back to Sudhian SFF so that the members of this forum know the meaning of the title of your post.

Same name over there, but why are you calling yourself a "refugee." I've been using both of them since I found them.

Sudhian has a SFF forum, but has been involved in numerous contests they originated with Shuttle Computer where prizes (Computers) were promised in return for corporate logo ideas and input on Shuttle products, however, the prizes promised were either awarded very late and incomplete, not awarded as indicated, or never awarded at all.

The website, Sudian Media, was the venue for these contests, but does nothing to make sure the prizes were awarded as stated in joint announcements with Shuttle.

That forum makes me appreciate a well run forum like Anandtech's.

<--- xizor on sudhian, I'm very happy w/ their Shuttle forums, but I stay away from the media stuff and contests. The members in both AT and Sudhian are great IMO, so I'm happy to enjoy both.

I too am part of Sudhian forums under the same name. Their forum is not yet as mature as here in AT, things here are much more diverse and the people are much more informative here. However, SFF still hasn't hit the mass market here at AT.

Sudhian forums still has it's niche.

I think I'm also gaidin123 or gaidin on the sudhian forums. I've always stayed away from the contests but the SFF forums over there are a richer source of SFF specific info than the AT ones in general. I haven't lurked over there much lately. I take it a group of y'all got fed up with the closeness of Sudhian and Odie/Shuttle in the forums?

i haven't been to sudhian for a while, has it gone downhill recently?

Sudhian teamed up with Shuttle for a couple contests, one to win a free Shuttle XPC in exchange for input on new products. It was never awarded. The Shuttle Rep who initated it visits the site but does not post or answer questions about the contest, which ended 3 months ago, with a promise of the announcement of the winner "soon". Sudhian makes little attempt to rectify the problem, even though they were the venue for the contest.

The next contest has for another "well equipped" XPC, that came to the winner weeks after it has supposed to be sent, was not complete, got sent back, waited longer, finally got a "well equipped" XPC with a GeForce 2 MX and 256MB RAM and an Athlon 64 3200. Decent processor but hardly well equipped. Many people chipped in cash to get him some decent memory and video card.

Pissed lots of people off, myself included. These people can't seem to get a contest right, it's not rocket science.

Wow. I didn't read about that before. Wondered about the logo results. Now I know. Still, can't speak too ill of a forum where the members (not really high in number) get together to help this guy flush out his system...

I agree, though, quit the contests.

Personally, I never gave them much thought. I like the fora as a place to look up (potential) issues with my shuttle.

Yeah, my previous forum had some sharp people and you'd get a reponse almost instantly. But I love AT!

The Sudihan forum has some real talent, but the drama queens in there can be enough to drive anyone the wall. Bring on some level headed analysis I say.

im a newbie to both. i was here first and was linked over there. i like it over there for the most part, didnt know about that the contest stuff was linked to sudhian. and i always wondered how that one guy was thanking the forum for memory in his sig, lol.

But seeing as you seem to be bored with the same things as me I guess it will not.

It was not much of a scandal but it is quite annoying to have to scroll through all those posts.
We need something interesting to discuss though.

No, no contests please! Hello Hepp and welcome. You have always a wealth of information over at Sudhian (especially knowledgable about memory sync, etc) and it's good to see you drop by AT. It gets kinda quiet here sometimes though, compared to Sudhian, but no BS as far as I can tell.
