You got off easy. Hood, Fender, Headlight, Windshield, maybe repaint the bumper.

I was referring to the poster with the BMW Z4 who hit the deer. Your car is much worse off. I would like them to total it for you, but it depends on:

1): Market value of the car (new) to replace it
2): How much it would cost to fix it properly. (I would say at least $8 to $10K in cost)

That sucks man!
I've been fortunate here, had several close calls, but never hit one of them yet.

My uncle has had 3 deer collisions in the last few years. He used to commute from Sturgeon Bay WI to Green Bay WI and he worked nights .... essentially his entire commute was a deer crossing zone.

Preliminary estimate puts it at 11k in damage from thier own adjuster. He said he's going to check the ACV and salvage and see if he can get it totaled but right now it looks like it's repairable.

If they try and repair it, they better full beleive I will make sure every bolt and nut is brand new on this car.

What you're going to do is get it repaired, sell it, and wash your hands of it. This car is already a loss for you. The insurance company is just figuring out if it can be saved.

The car has got to go. Do not spend any more money on it.

That looks like it was a Ford Focus .. not sure which version. They run from about $15K to $32K depending on model and options. I hope you opted for "full replacement value"on your insurance. It only works for the first year or a certain number of miles, but if you did get it, you are clearly within the requirements.

It was a 2016 Focus ST with ST2 package + some other options MSRP was 29k. Not sure what the "Full replacement" thing is. I do have GAP coverage though.

Even if it's not totalled I wouldn't want it back. Good luck getting any warranty work done in the future with damage like that.

With that amount and that car costing now more than $31K or so, yes, it will be totaled.

Now you have to decide what kind of car to replace it with. Same one or something totally new.

Well, you saw how poorly the car did in this case. Granted the driver / occupants would be okay, but the car lost the battle.

umm that's the point. That's how all cars are designed today. The car did exactly what it should have, protect the people inside of it.

Yes, it did that. But in a relatively small accident like that, an older car would have had fixable damage. Nowadays, no matter what you hit or what hits you, the repair bill, if it is fixable is immense. Especially if the air bags go off.

Yeah in this case, hitting a 150 pound deer might not have injured the occupants if the car didn't self-destruct. But if that had been a collision with a 3000 pound car, the occupants still might have come out unscathed in a modern car but an older car might have put him in the hospital. I had a friend in HS (1984) who hit a deer at ~50mph and his car was totaled as well.

The car did its job well. If you prefer an older car with a different design, go for it.

My neighbor hit one two weeks ago in her Nissan Altima but it was a glancing blow that damaged the left front hood, headlight/fascia, left quarter panel and the drivers door. When I was a kid a family friend hit one in SC while he was driving a MG Midget which totaled the car. I've seen YouTube videos of cars hitting deer and a VW bug launched one up at least 40' sending it flying over oncoming traffic and off the road.
