Here I am about to buy a movie ticket when the cashier says my card is declined. I contacted my card company and was told that my balance was $0.00! You know that feeling when your stomach drops to your feet? yeah, I was right there. I find out that the fucking fuck fuck scumbag bought six delta airline tickets online with my check card (see credit card).

The funny thing is that I didn't lose my card and the only purchases that I use this check card are from Newegg.com and Amazon.com.....how did these sites become compromised?

The only thing I want is to find the guy (or chick) that did this so I can repeatedly bludgeon them to death with a claw hammer until there is nothing left but fucking blood and broken concrete!! :|

Edit: Called and checked on my other cards. They are in the clear. This can officially be downgraded to stolen card.

Say goodbye to your credit score. You are now a bigger risk than someone with bad credit.

It probably wont be hard to track them down if they bought airline tickets for themselves. Just capture them when they get off the flight.

How is that stolen identity? Thats just a stolen credit card.

Stolen identity is when someone uses your identity to open new accounts or buy things like cars and such.

You just had your CC # stolen...it happens. Someone who processed your card at Newegg or Amazon took your number and gave it to someone. That, or your number was taken when you input it into the site via keylogger or packet sniffing.

roger that. I went ahead and edited my post to reflect credit card stolen. Doesn't make me much happier though.

don't listen to idiots on AT. Dispute the charges and the CC company will send you a paper to sign sign asking you a few questions. It won't affect your credit score.

Is this true? Because some asshat decides to take your stuff you get screwed for years? Can't you just prove it was stolen and get it taken care of? Or am I being totally naive about this?

It's total bullshit. Don't listen to this idiot. He doesn't know anything about the subject, obviously.

While this may or may not be much help, in the future, perhaps you should consider using a credit card for most of your purchases. While it sucks regardless to have someone steal your info and use your $, it's a lot less painful if your CC got compromised instead.

credit card # =/= to check card. I'd love to always have a balance of $0.00 on my credit card =P

but man, that sucks. I've had this unfortunately happen to one of my credit cards, but chase was really good about it. Caught it while doing random spot checks, and there was a 7k charge, and another 7k waiting for authorization. for google adwords. Chase put a hold and locked down the card, reversed the giant charges, sent me a little paper to fill out and all was good.

You don't need a credit card.

Just open another checking account at your bank. It's free.

I have one account that receives my paycheck direct deposits which I use for all my monthly recurring bills (through free online bill pay).

I have a second account that I attach to a debit/check card and I use for day-to-day purchases (like Amazon, Newegg, gas, food, etc.). Even if this card was compromised, it never has more than a few hundred dollars in it at once. I have free instant online transfers between accounts.

I bank with Bank Of America, and they restore any fraudulently used funds within 1 business day, and this includes DEBIT/CHECK cards.

So if someone tells you that you *NEED* a credit card, I say bullshit. You just need to be smarter about how you handle your money. Definitely don't keep your mortgage money in the same account that you use to make online purchases.

is that credit card one of those mastercard paypass things? because, those things are very easy to rip, all someone needs is a good enough antenna and basically go near ur wallet, not even touch it.

uh yeah, that's much easier than just keeping a CC and paying it off. lol

Some people are adult enough to be able to keep a CC. There are several good reason for having a CC at your disposal.

I had my debt card ripped once and I didn't notice for about..2 years. After hosting 10 or so AOL accounts I got a little suspicious. I think I lost a good 2k and I was 19 years old at the time so that money was precious.

READ the post, baked. It was my CHECK card w/ the visa logo on it. From now on I'm using another card with a smaller balance for online purchases...

Just curious, why don't you use a credit card for purchases?

whoever thinks having a debit card attached to your checking account trumps a credit card, where you can borrow someone else's money for free (as long as you pay it back in 30 days) really is living in their own world.

also, i like the protection credit card companies give me with my money and other perks they have attached to them.

and you won't be liable for any of the charges either. you should realize that amdhunter is a poor source of any accurate information on this forum
