I think the trolling + being so unbelievably wrong is vacation worthy for the OP
Nah, my wife was even saying how she hoped I didn't get sent into this one a few days back (work sent me down to Houston ahead of Ike a few years ago) and I told her no worries, they were blowing this out of proportion just like they did with Ike...hell it was only going to be a Cat1 storm and Ike was Cat3 and wasn't all that bad..well I guess the east coast just isn't designed to handle it like Texas:\

And he admitted he was wrong...

you would be an idiot to think it wasn't a big deal just because it was a cat 1. every report said it wasnt the cat wind speed but the sheer size, location, move speed, and location as to why it would be so devastating. Do people not read?

Catagories are only determined based on factors like wind speed. Not the physical size of the storm, the amount of rain fall. Etc. (These factors have caused plenty of issues up and down the east coast that don't normally see storms of this magnitude).

So it was not blown out of porpotion if you look at everything that has been affected already. Just the "deathcount" is small but that is because it was not a destructive hurricane like Ike, Andrew, Katrina. Etc. But that doesn't mean the storm wasnt strong and powerful in its own way affecting millions.

Pretty damn close to true, been through over a dozen tornadoes and I usually climbed up on my roof to get a better view if I wasn't chasing them down the road I know what hurricanes are and how they're rated, I've been through two of those as well, people need to prepare

Seriously--- a hurricane the size of the entire eastern seaboard is BOUND to cause widespread destruction. It's best to believe the hype and make fun of it later if it's wrong with weather situations. We're near 100% accurate with 3 day forecasts and 75% accurate with 7 day forecasts, so chances are the predictions will be right.

Right, even a F1 tornado can kick your and your posession's ass. Just because its weak doesn't mean it can't be as destructive.

Definitely, it's just the dumb asses who don't prepare who are "caught off guard"...still looks like New York got it's butt kicked, they're gonna be water logged for quite some time, but with all those cars flooded out it should help with traffic for a while:whiste:

Meteorology isn't a totally exact science, but when local and national meteorologists, local officials, state officials of all stripes and even the president are telling people to not take this one lightly, people really have no excuse for being ignorant or arrogant.

And folks here were explaining precisely what the risks were. Unless you believe the science is hooey (let's be honest, there's too many who do), people had advance notice and should have had the common sense to act prudently.

So, if the OP suggests that people should have been beaten for raising "panic", does this mean that people who posted during the storm and complaining about the "hype" get their own beating?

And he admitted he was wrong...

There are a lot of problems with the Safir-Simpson scale, the biggest is that it doesn't take into account the size of the storm. One meteorologist, after Katrina, said that Camille (a Cat 5 storm) killed a lot of people during Katrina, because people reasoned that "well, cat 3 at landfall, so it won't be as bad as Camille."

So Sandy was Cat 1... the storm surge doesn't match a typical Cat 1, because the size of the storm wasn't taken into consideration. A proposed alternative to the SS scale is the I.K.E. scale - integrated kinetic energy. It seems to be a much better indicator of the amount of damage that will occur. But, also remember, a lot of the damage from Katrina, particularly in New Orleans, was due to a faulty levee, not really due to the storm (though the storm, of course, exasperated it.)

BECAUSE Sandy was "only a Cat 1", a lot of people didn't take the storm as seriously as they should have. BECAUSE Sandy was "only a Cat 1", people are blaming the damage on preparedness. Yet, in terms of I.K.E., Sandy was at the high end of the scale. It's odd that for Gulf Coast storms, people really only focus on the damage closer to the coast, but for Sandy, so many people are saying "well, it still was a bust, because a couple hundred miles inland, on the other side of a mountain range, we only had 2 or 3 inches of rain and only a few trees down from wind."

Should posters be vacationed for trolling? "nothing going on outside" - and members of this forum in NYC are reporting that their basements are flooding, 5 or 6 hours ahead of the storm, ahead of the storm surge, and ahead of the high tide. Why don't you go down to Battery Park around 5pm and take some pictures of yourself holding a sign that says, "Hello to ATOT from Sandy." -Admin DrPizza

The OP is a known racist and a troll. Dr. Pizza ... what other proof do you need to grant a vacation?

well, as you're from Texas and seem to have so much hurricane experience, you'd know by now that category rankings really don't mean anything in terms of how it is going to play out where and when it hits land...

It would be hilarious, if it wasn't so sad, if news stations gathered comments like this:
On the news right now, they are only creating panic and theres nothing going on outside. NYC is at a standstill, and it's all because of these dicks predicting armageddon.

If nothing happens, I believe all of these dicks should be taken out and beaten, or at least fired and fined for creating mass hysteria. We have hospitals putting surgery out, kids hiding under beds because they think the world is going to end, businesses already on the brink of failure being forced to close...and on and on. Just once, I'd like to see these morons pay for their stupidity. Just once.

And posted them all up on a website, along with the names of the people who posted such comments. Sort of a wall of shame.

Yeah you're right, the where is a huge part of it, NY is low and the surge has them swimming right now, but at least the streets are cleaner
