I've had some time to read the reviews and reflect on 'Fermi' and yeah, it's just not going to work. I'd rather sacrifice some features and speed and put something in my case that isn't going to annoy me or have me paranoid every time I fire up a game.

FFS I heard stories of the heat coming from that card softening up wires belonging to other components! No thanks, Nvidia. I'm 99.9% sure i want to go with a 5870 now. The only question now is whether I wait for the 2gb models to emerge. I'm getting tired of waiting though as I'm dying to play me some BFBC 2.

So what do you think, what I be doing myself a disservice getting a 5870 now or does it not really matter?

Few will advocate 2GB but I'm with you, I want the extra memory. I'm tired of waiting too!! I had that order on the 5850 2GBs but cancelled.

It's a tough call on waiting but what if they come out next week and they're only 50 bucks more? 5870 is a great card. You'll be very happy with it.

If you're planning for Eyefinity or 2560x1600 then it's pretty much a no-brainer to wait.

Yeah, I'll be gaming at 1920x1080. But there's always the future proofing side of it, right? And doesn't it come in useful if you really want to crank up the AA?

Plus there's the GTA side stories coming out in a couple weeks and the engine in that game seems to really eat up the video memory. I can see myself looking at the configuration screen and cursing myself for not waiting for the 2gb model.

Yeah, I was pretty sure I wanted a Fermi up until the last second. I should probably change my name but I can't really be bothered. But hey, at least it shows I'm not biased.

It's out of stock there, so they probably don't have the card yet, and that's probably why other sites aren't listing it yet.

I was waiting but no more. If a company (NV) tells me they are going to release a product and on the date of the release they tell me I can only get it on some random date in the future then I have to laugh...after being late...come on!! I thought I would wait and give NV a chance but after reading the reviews I was not that impressed. As far as I am concerned NV does not have a GTX480\470. AMD has had thier product out for 6 months and with Catalyst 10.3 they have the bugs worked out plus AMD now has custom boards with custom coolers. It is going to take NV a while to get Fermi up to speed. I really wanted to give NV a chance. I have owned TNT, TNT2, GeForce 256, GeForce 2, GeForce 4, GeForce 6800, GeForce 7600, 8800GTS but my last card was a Gigabyte 4870 1GB Zalman cooler which is a great card.

I just bought a SAPPHIRE 100282-3SR Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 1GB for $279 free shipping. I was going to buy the Toxic 5850 2GB from superbiiz but don't have a 8pin video card power connector on my power supply only 2*6pin. Anyways I could not pass up the NewEgg deal for $279 (I see the card is $299 now).
