Look ma...no box!

I had a deal come up locally that I couldn't refuse. Grabbed these av123 X-Statiks for $600. They'll eventually live in harmony with my $240 X-Voce I grabbed and a $400 MFW-15 in similar finish.
Consider me a scavenger for decent deals from a company going through impending doom.
These things are damn cool. Bass response is listed at 65hz but they dig a lot deeper than that. Running movies in 2 channel is quite a treat. When dialog is focued on the center you can't tell where the sound is coming from. As things pan left and right they start to give away direction as needed.
Voices are better than just about anything else I've ever heard...so clear and natural sounding...almost to the point where movie soundtracks show their weaknesses in production.
And as far as music goes...these things were made to play the "S&M" (Symphony & Metallica) album. Truely a treat. I played some Tool and other harder rock stuff and they weren't quite up to the task in the low end & visceral punch that a larger, ported cabinet would provide. But they do hold their own well without trying to overachieve in places they shouldn't.
Overall for $600 I'm very happy. I know the makers of the speakers are in deep doodoo...but I'm okay with the gamble.
