I think dug777 should quit trying to stir the shite with 6 month previews....wait until we see some more firm pricing on chipsets and chips to see what has value. I think anybody with a brain knew Intel was going to take back performance crown. Again any moron who has infrequently following the tech news knew AM2 was not going to enhance much and the conroe was going to be a real enhancement in work per clock....AM2 has sounded like a dud from half a year ago. We all knew DDR2 was going to have no or possibly a negative value to the AMD chips. Their only short-term answer was going to be increased clockspeed. Again any moron knows based on OCing of current 90nm chips that 3ghz is no gimme and would be a very very small select of ones that could hit it...
I guess this being news to so many has me quite preplexed about the make-up of the forum.
You think Dug would have been one of those to figure that out instead of making such huge shocking news out of not much of anything.
Again I will restate my plan is likely to get one once I see th e dust settle on chipsets (and with Intel of late, longevity of chipset) and pricing. I dont care who wins, except for me. I win when I can get a kick-arse chip for under 400 dollars that I can OC the piss out of and get a healthy increase over my current setup.
I own no stock of either...i have no pony in this fight...Frankly cpus of late have really bored me. Intel cpus for the last 2 years have damn near put me in a coma. The money I have saved from a rather anemic year of upgrades have allowed me to buy my HDTV home theater dream setup....55" Hitachi Plasma, Bose Acoutimass speakers, new upsampling DVD-player, etc.....I will have fun here while I wait for cpus to get interesting again as well as the content of this forum...
It shocked me (hence the thread title ), there was no way i was expecting those kind of numbers...sure i kinda hoped intel would come out marginally on top at this stage, just to keep some pressure on AMD, but i didn't expect this kind of hosing...
As far as i can see, with the exception of taking a few digs at me (), you've restated what i've said, AM2 will do very little to close the gap by all accounts & we will be waiting on AMDs die shrink before they realistically have a chance of getting close to these figures (especially noting, as AT did, that this is just an upper midrange part, not an EE that should come in @ at least 3ghz)...
