Good for you. It certainly feels good to know you are compensating hard working developers when you use their software. I will never understand the entitlement attitude of a very large segment of internet users who think it's okay to exploit the labour of development teams.

Of course, one could argue if 50% of the previous version's code is reused in the next version, should it cost 50% less?

I didn't pay a thing for my OS or any of the software I'm using on it, and I'm proud of it!

I would have to say "one" could not argue that, the software maker has put up a never version of a software, they have given this software a price you have the choice to buy or not buy!

I too was like you and would dig for ways to justify my stealing of software, end the end I came to the conclusion I could no longer bullshit myself.

Oh Im not here to tell anyone what to do, just wanted to post my views on my system. Oh and comment on replies like the one above

Work equipment?

As for my computer, the only thing I have on mine anymore that borderlines on shady is a trial version of nero that expired that still works with a popular DVD utility.

Everything else either has a valid key or is a true freeware.

And where in my post did I advocate stealing it?

Unfortunately the money isn't going towards the developers. It makes me sick to know that MS can charge over $200 for Vista, regardless of how shitty and bloated it is. I can't opt for another OS on a new PC because of the MS monopoly.

So I say, screw these companies that overcharge for software that is filled with bugs and uses a ton of resources.

AFAIK, no large company provides the lion's share of profits to the people who create it. They have too many middle-management mouths to feed.

Yes but these developers have made the choice to work for the said company, they know the score as do you as a customer.

You can dig all you want to feel good about stealing I as a customer have chosen to not steal any more.

Strangley enough, the legal product that drew me away from downloading music illegally and buying the occassional CD probably gives artists the least amount of money possible and likely goes all back to the record company.

I subscribe to the Rhapsody music service which is like $14 a month. For $14 I can download as much music as I can cram on my PC or my MP3 player(s). Something tells me that if I download 20 of Aerosmith's CD's they aren't getting very much money out of that $14.

Not that they were getting any money from illegal downloads, but it's probably far less than what they get from CD's or even ITunes.

Neither did I.

Of course, I'm using open source software to do it.

Eh, I pay for the software I can afford (and feel that they deserve it for creating an awesome product), take the ones I can't afford. It's worked out well so far!
