What else did you'll expect? This is nothing more than politicians buying off voters with the voters' money.

Barney Frank convinces GM CEO to keep his district's plant open...

Sounds like it was still the CEO's decision because he wanted to keep his job.

Fixed.

Wow, totally naive and/or willful denial.

GM is government controlled.

Barney Frank is technically (one of) the CEO's boss.

You really think the CEO truly had a decision to make?

Mind-boggling...

Does Frank have the authority to keep the factory open on his own? No.
And so it begins. LOL. Surely you are not this naive. Barney had a sit down with the CEO. Barney oversees vast sums and influence in Washington. He doesn't HAVE to tell the CEO to do anything. He can hint, he can encourage. And the CEO doesn't want to piss off Barney does he? How often do you think my boss orders me to do anything? Never. I know that I ought to do what he likes, though, so he never has to tell me to do anything

Yes, our resident obamatrolls are suspiciously silent, aren't they?

Slowly but surely, more people are waking up to the impending disaster that is the Obama administration. It's like waking up after a bad night at the bar next to someone that you'd never have gone to bed with if you were in your right mind. Now, you don't even have the option of biting off your own arm to escape.

It's analogous to taking out the garbage despite the fact that your wife doesn't technically have the authority to make you do it, or when you'd get "that look" from your mother and you knew simply to do what she said.

Let's not forget that the Obama administration already asked the last GM CEO to step down. If you are CEO of GM, you better be on the good side with your paymasters.

there are some good articles on R.W.s 'resignation' as well, and basically how he was the king dummy in the corporation, aka, he was the wall that took all the media flac and protected what was within it...

but, this is awesome, now all we need is equal pay for all members of society, in equal homes... /techs.txt

You'll do it if you wanna get laid that night.

I have a feeling this is the same kind of relationship the government fosters with just about everyone it deals with.

Right now it is especially true for CEOs of large companies and banks.

You just don't get the Obama administration mad.. and you definitely don't mess with Obama motors.. chicago politics... ;-P

Yes we did call it. Most saw it coming and it is only going to get worse. Soon the government will be in control of most major industries (auto, oil, energy, transportation, health) and really have complete control over it's citizens. It's scary how fast this country is falling, scary fast. Every single day it seems there is more news of the government taking more power. Every day.

so now what do the Obamaites have to say? They tried to convince everyone that the admininstration would not run the company. Fooled again. When will you sheeple wake up?

Sweet, so long as there is a middle man we can blame it all on him. To blame the puppet instead of the puppet master. This is clearly the fault of GM's CEO.

Apparently very little. I see the most vocal of them posting in other threads but avoiding this one like a hot potato.

It has been very odd. You would have expected at least one copy and paste of Phokus.txt, Craig.txt and/or techs.txt by now, some kind of "pass the buck to Bush/Republicans"; anything! But they have been notably absent here, yet active in other threads...hmm.

It seems like they only pick the easy battles, and when they are outmatched and clearly wrong, they take their toys and go home.

I hate to rain on this parade but the Norton facility is not a GM plant - it's a parts distribution center for the NE.

The center still appears to be on schedule for closing next summer with consolidated operations in Philly, or maybe NJ.

GM actually sold the Norton facility in Jan/08 for $25 million and now leases the building. The newly built Norton replaced the Westwood Parts Distribution Center that has been torn down for a new (now stalled) mixed-use development.

There are a number of issues that must be 'unwound'. Financing for the facility was through tax increment financing (TIF) and it appears several million dollars of road improvements were made. These inducements were for the promise of the creation of 140 'new jobs'.

GM has received $250k in property tax breaks that, theoretically were passed to the new owner (or may be passed on to any new future owner(s) ) that decides to reinvest in the facility (which is 400k sq ft). I don't know what the total state and local tax breaks were to be, or what the actual cost of the facility ended up being (I've seen $37 million tossed around). Who knows what the status of the GM lease may be? Or how the GM bankruptcy may effect the new owner of the facility.

I don't like the idea of any politician interjecting themselves into something like this but a little extra time will hopefully protect all the parties involved.

So you say.

Of course, other than your FEAR and embellishment you have nothing to add. Extra-ordinary times call for extra-ordinary measures. I feel certain that given the choice no one in America wanted Bush to fail so miserably as to necessitate all the actions taken in the last 2 years.

But you probably knew that.

Wake up, and do what?

For me, voting Republican to oppose the Democrats is a ridiculous and desperate option that I will not allow. I stand for conservatism and neither incumbent party does. They are equals at corruption and are both to blame for this present mess.

So for those of us who feel this way, what action is there to take?

Our two party system is an effective one, it has the general population trapped into voting for the incumbent parties. Until this system is removed, you can call them sheeple all you want but the average person is doing the only thing they think they can do.

There needs to be a great deal of education with regards to voter options and how it is extremely necessary to "lose the battle to win the war". It is required that you vote for a candidate with less than 10% support before anything is going to change. Not only that, but for an entire party of his like minded cohorts achieving majority control of Congress before anything will change.

Think you?ll see that happen in your life time? This will only happen if enough of us are willing to betray and DESTROY our present incumbent party. Only from the ashes can we build anew. I suggest we start with the Republican Party.

Recently, GM told workers it would close a parts distribution center in Massachusetts. The facility sits in the congressional district of Democrat Barney Frank. Frank chairs the House Committee on Financial Services, which oversees the very government money that has kept GM alive.

Frank didn't want to see more of his constituents out of work in a deep recession, so he e-mailed the White House.

"I also called somebody at General Motors on Monday and said I think this is a bad idea, this is a bad time to do this
," he says.

GM CEO Fritz Henderson met with Frank. Afterward, Henderson extended the life of the center for another seven months.

Moreover, if he emailed the Whitehouse, this clearly shows that the Obama administration, receiving an email from Barney Frank, knew exactly what he was trying to do.

What you said was distracting minutiae of no relevance. GM plant or GM plants supplier, tax breaks or not, who cares? GM was going to close this operation down and after the GM CEO met with Frank, it's no longer closing, so obviously GM still has the final word in what happens to this place. GM wanted to shut it down. Barney Frank said he didn't want it shut down. It didn't shut down. No need to obfuscate...
but a little extra time will hopefully protect all the parties involved.
GM disagrees, which is why it said to shut it down [on original schedule], but subsequently rescinded after its paymaster said no.

Uh, yes, he did. You're too busy trolling though, so you might have missed it...

Your argument was "But this plant isn't a GM plant, so your argument doesn't apply!"

Skoorb clearly showed from the link that Barney Frank contacted the GM CEO and the White House about this specific plant. After this contact, GM reversed their decision about closing the plant as scheduled.

He actually refuted everything you said.

Basically, you tried the smoke and mirrors, deflect the argument, say a bunch of nothing to try and change the issue approach, and got totally called out and owned.

Do (can?) you read, or do you just post nonsense and insults when you're totally wrong and proven to be the hack that you are? Of course, on cue, when proven over and over again that you are wrong, you resort to the straw man arguments and the name-calling.
