50 GB for $5.99 per month (includes backup for 1 computer)
125 GB for $9.99 per month (includes backup for up to 3 computers)

You may add additional computers (up to 5 in total) or 20 GB increments of storage to either of the plans, each for a monthly cost of $2.00.

While this policy takes effect for new MozyHome customers starting today, your MozyHome Unlimited subscription is still valid for the duration of your current monthly term. Your new plan will take effect on your first renewal after March 1, 2011. Based on your current usage of 1 computers and 163.46 gigabytes, your renewal plan will be $13.99 for a monthly term.

FWIW, I use Crashplan. Right around Thanksgiving, they restructured their pricing scheme and increased the unlimited plan price by a whopping $1/mo, but also included the Crashplan+ license (which was previously a one-time $60 purchase, which allowed certain premium features over the basic-only plan).

Yeah, but Ubuntu One is a cloud-based storage service, as opposed to a backup repository. There's an expectation that significantly more two-way traffic will be incurred per account. I would compare it more to Dropbox.

Carbonite's software is garbage IMO. We used it briefly at work and I found it bogged down my machine and would selectively ignore certain file extensions when backing up directories (with no documentation on what files were ignored).

Got the same email, thinking about Carbonite as they have a free Android app that lets you access your files. If I remember the Pandora ad right, there's 2 months free with coupon 'android'. Any other comments on Carbonite vs Crashplan? The selectively skipping files thing above kinda scares me.

anyway, i haven't really used other online ones besides Mozy but i've heard that Backblaze is supposed to be great, and they also backup USB drives that are connected to your pc!

I was about to get all up in arms about it, but when I checked my account I realized that this is only going to cost me an extra 9 cents a month and I can backup an additional PC.

Still looking at alternatives, does anyone know of any other vendors besides Carbonite that provide an Android app for restores and/or backup?

I read this as a concession that unlimited storage for what they were charging simply doesn't make business sense.

This article explains a little bit about which files Carbonite ignores, but even from the article "an exhaustive list of these extensions is available upon request". It's not clear at all to the user that some files will be passed over.

I use Carbonite at home and it works well. After the files are uploaded it uses minimal system resources. You can manually add the excluded files types, which are video file types I think (I don't personally backup those kinds of things).

I've been happy with it, considering the cost and the lack of other options.. I have a 5 year unlimited plan for I think $120 from a sale a few years ago. I back up photographs, a few documents, and my work portfolio.

My biggest problem with Backblaze is not being able to specify individual folders to backup. It wants to backup everything on all my drives, but I've got a ton of stuff that I don't need to upload to the cloud.

I thought Mozy was great until I lost my RAID array and tried getting everything back from them. What a cluster of a process and I'm missing my entire inbox still to this day.

1. I found the client software easy to use.
There's not much more I can say about the service itself. It is currently backing up.
I hope that if I have to use it can say it was great!

What I did not like...

1. The backup started automatically as soon as the software was installed. I'd like to choose how it gets backed up before it starts. You'll have to pause it quickly.

2. I was unable to de-select drive C. I'd like to have granular control. I only want to backup drive D. One gets around this by excluding c drive as a folder, but it is an extra step that is unnecessary.
I find this half flawed. It is ok for users who want hand holding since it defaults to backup everything except the OS, dlls, etc. However I'd like to see the option of the user selecting what to backup instead of telling the software to exclude items.
Why not offer both? It makes sense from the user standpoint...for both novice and power users.

3. Since the backup started automatically, it had enough time to backup a few files.
I went to the web portal and tried to find how to delete those files and I was not able to. So far I don't see a way to do this.

I'll post more as I find things.

Yes, that's the right one. The service is provided by Trend Micro, so it'd doubtful it would suddenly shutdown. Some are reporting you can signup for another year at $30, so $60 ($2.50/month) gets you 2 years of unlimited backup AND sync from unlimited computers.

I signed up for a year (+2 months free) of Carbonite today, so far I like options better in Mozy but that's obviously no longer an option for the 180GB I'm backing up. I don't like having to manually select video files in each folder, I know I'm going to miss one. Before anyone says anything, no, none of that is pr0n.
