Well my precious XT is gone now

I got an offer for $700 today and could not refuse. Just shipped it out. I guess it's time to jump on the GT bandwagon.

It's great to have had such a video card in your rig. My only regret is that I couldn't reach 15000 3dmarks, I topped out at 14963.

Also, clocked at 425/900, the XT gets 10968 3dmarks.

I'm glad he shared. Won't waste money on an X800XT now that I have a 6800GT

So, which GT are you going to get and from where? Or wait, you already have one right?

Ah I see. 425/900 would be the stock speeds of the supposed X800GT model and the 10K 3dmarks an approximate score for such a card.

I think thats what he was getting at. My 6800GT ran 10L 3Dmark03 scores at 350/1000

My question was directed towards General, oops! But thanks anyway.

Damn. OK, so let me calculate this:

$300 for the GT
$436 (iirc?) for the XT
Sell XT for $700
Total amount paid for GT: $30-something

Wow, whish I had bought an XT for $450+ so I could resell it for $700. Can't blame you for that.

I already have a compusa 6800 GT. Poor overclocker though.

The GT vs GT battle will come down to whether the x800 GT can overclock at least 75-100 mhz on the core. If it can, it'll outdo the 6800 in speed.

More importantly, if we start seeing $300 x800 Pros, we have a new price/performance leader this generation. At that price it's really a no brainer buy over pretty much anything.

HI General Grevious,

I wanted an XT (wanted yours too ). I was holding out for Powercolor's which I was never quick enough to buy (up and down on newegg). I just bought a GT from EVGA and plan to use their step up program in 90 days. You can buy the GT now and then "step up" to an Ultra or 512 Mb Ultra (if they are selling them around October 20th). You only pay the price difference (looking at $100) and you get a new retail card. You must mail back in good working condition with all paperwork / games.

Check it out: Step Up

I just didn't want to wait any longer and EVGA is giving a way for you to play now and play harder later.

That will depend upon cooling solutions

Regarding the eVGA Step Up program, I am not sure why anyone would really do it. Since overclocking the GT to Ultra speeds is so easy and very safe it seems kinda pointless doesn't it? I have never overclocked a card but I think I would overclock the GT.

Or do you guys think overclocking the Ultra to ridiculous speeds will be easy too?

Check it out: Step Up
My card is a PNY, unfortunately. It sucks; all the $300 deals have been for PNY or BFG.

Well, one reason might be that they don't want a 185 degree space heater in their comp. Also overclocking is not guaranteed. My guess is 420/1100 is about the limit for the GT and 450/1200 for the Ultra so you are getting more speed as well.

I was under the impression that the heat gain was very minimal with an overclocked GT.

There's plenty of people paying those prices. That person's not the first nor the last. In fact, if you want an XT PE I'd challenge you to find it in stock for less than $600 much less $700

I have been reading a lot of review sites and it seems like most of them get the GT to 400 - 425 stable. The Ultras usually overclock 445 - 475 from what I have read? I'm new to this game The great thing about the EVGA step up is that I have 90 days to choose to step up & pay the differential between the new product and what the GT cost (100% return if you don't trash the bundle & card). I just bought my GT today so, I should have until the 20th of October to "step up". Around October 19th I'm hoping that Nvidia has their refreshed products out? Maybe a faster stock clock for their "ultras" or at least 512 Mb of Ram for Doom 3

I guess I just got sick of waiting. I really wanted a powercolor X800 XT

Read ackmed's post in this thread. Lots of users show mid 80 C temps.

Some who wanted a fastest video card in the world I suppose.

Hmm. When you step up, do you get the full price you paid for the card, or what is it retailing for now?

It's an XTPEto you mister.

Would you like me to email him on your behalf? I can tell him that the GT is much faster than the XT and that the XT is dependent on IQ optimizations and driver cheats if you wish.
