My Dell Optiplex seems to have died. I came home from work yesterday to find the system powered down with the power LED blinking amber. I held the power button down until the system powered down completely and the LED was off, then turned it back on. It appeared to boot normally and loaded XP without a problem. However, after only a few minutes, the system powered down again. I unplugged the Optiplex and left it until today.
Today, I cracked open the SFF case and blew out all the dust. It was likely that it was either a power issue or a heat issue. There was a lot of dust inside, but not enough to stop any fans from spinning. I powered on the system with the case open in order to verify that the fans were spinning properly, and yes they were.
However, thats where things went down hill. As XP began to load, I smelled something burning, burnt electronics smell. I hit the power button immediately.
Seems 24/7 Seti finally did in the PSU.
My Compaq SFF system still functions, but its running Ubuntu linux and I can't get BOINC to work on it for the life of me. So, only my C2D desktop is running S@H now.
