I am done with my leased GLi, paid and just ready to turn in whenever I feel like it (I guess.)
I wanted something that would have been more fun to drive, and finally decided that a BMW 135i is what I wanted. I decided to call Geico, and asked for a quote. I had no VIN or anything, and just wanted a ballpark figure.
Now, I got rear ended last year, and Geico had to give me $500 out of their pockets. I was also "vandalised" by my parking neighbor, and it did not cost Geico a thing -- I gave them her insurance info in hopes of getting my money back.
Right now, I get raped. Since I have a lease, I carry the maximum possible coverage from Geico. It costs me 1290/6 months, which I always pay in one lump sum. My rates dropped recently, by 20 dollars...it did NOT go up after the rear end/parking incident.
I was quoted a "rounded" figure of 1900/6 months provided I buy a bone stock 135i with no options. When I asked about the rate, the lady on the phone wouldn't elaborate much, but if I had another address, I could possibly use that.
I live in a fairly ghetto area, but I love the area. I have a big apartment, and I live 5 minutes from work. I don't want to leave. I certainly don't want to move to a more expensive area to save a few dollars on car insurance. I also have immaculate (800+) credit.
This sucks. I think when I give back my Jetta I might not buy anything and live like my friends do with their Zipcar accounts when they need a car. Mind you, I can easily afford the $1900 -- but screw that.
I guess I'll be driving Jetta's my whole life.
