The sexist accusations are fairly accurate considering that the majority of the media reporting on Palin over the past 72 hours focuses squarely on her personal and family life.

I have yet to see anything from her professional life that calls into question her suitability to serve as VP.

Besides, the Founding Fathers never set a list of criteria for what qualifies someone to run for President, or serve as VP. The voters decide.

Obama established his viability as a candidate through exceptional and motivational speeches...Palin may do the same if she hits a home run at the RNC tonight.

Sorry but the fact that her and her family go against everything Republicans and their "Faith based initiative crap" jam down our throats on a daily basis certainly makes it a valid topic.

Bristol and Levi broke every Republican rule and now going to have the biggest Republican Shotgun wedding of all time.

Of course what about the millions of dollars of taxpayer money Bush and the GOP have sent to these Faith based Initiatives on this very subject.

This clearly shows epic fail

I don't appreciate my money going to this crap and any real American shouldn't either.

There was a reason for separation of Church and State and this clearly shows why it should be that way on every level.

Please learn the difference between a Republican and a Conservative.

It's all part of the GOP, makes no difference to me especially after what so called "conservatives" have done to this country the last 8 years.

They cannot be seperated.

I call bullshit. Off the top of my head:

1. Sent town 22 million dollars in debt to build an unnecessary sports center and park.

2. Attempted to ban books, then fired librarian for refusing.

3. Fired police chief for disagreeing with her politically (this one is a pointless argument, but it is a criticism that has been raised about her professionally).

4. Used a campaign slogan indicating that her opponent in a political race, a Lutheran, was not Christian.

I'm sure I'm missing some, but those are complaints about her conduct in her role as mayor and governor. They have absolutely nothing to do with her personal life.

So, dmcowen, is Obama's personal sex history and that of his daughters now open discussion since Obama has proposed some "faith-based initiatives" of his own? Or does that standard only apply to people whose policy you disagree with?

Sure. I don't think his daughters are old enough for sex but whatever floats your boat.

I disagree to an extent. Most of the attacks that I would consider sexist have attacked her about "how dare she run for office, she has 5 kids, she cant possibly have time" or "how can she manage the country when her family is in such disarray." THOSE are sexist. Her daughter's unfortunate pregnancy brings up an ISSUE in her beliefs on sex education, but her DAUGHTER shouldnt be the topic... which it HAS been, and there is NO denying that. Discuss her record as governor and mayor all you want... please, I dont know everything about her yet... but there should be NO question asked of her that you would not ask of any other MAN running for office.

Aside from that, please, discuss trooper gate, the pipeline, etc. I want that discussion. It is the discussions on her children and husband that disgust me, as they are NOT running for office.

Yeah, yeah, their children & family are a "private matter". Then why are they being marched up on stage at a national convention?. Are they good little political props?. Then again, thats all women and children seem to be to the GOP, props and tools to be used.

Where was this respect for my privacy when they destroyed FISA protections? when they supported mandatory drug testing? when they get to judge me on who I marry and have sex with? when it comes to womens privacy i.e. abortion? Haven't republicans been saying for years that there is no right to privacy?

Speaking from a purely political stance, I hope that they parade those two kids on stage to rapturous applause.

Can you imagine that? It will come off like a bizarre freakshow, and will reinforce every stereotype there is about the radical right of the Republican Party. I'd imagine that every person in middle America watching that (especially the vaunted soccer mom demographic) will be staring at the screen, mouth agape in shock and the exploitation they're witnessing.

Seeing McCain hugging the soon to be son in law of the Palins gave me the creeps, like he was offering his blessing on this union as the Patriarch of the Republican "family". What did he promise this kid if he marries this girl, a draft lottery pick to the Mighty Ducks?

Imagine the response...

From the right and the "mainstream" press if a black, agressive basketball player from the South Side, who described himself on his MySpace page as a "fuckin' gangbanger," were to be Obama's theoretical daughter's boyfriend - even an acquaintance - let alone the father of her out-of-wedlock child. What WOULD happen on the right? Besides a few strokes and cardiac events on Fox News, the rhetoric would be almost beyond imagination.

Yet here we have a kid who is a self-described "fuckin' redneck" with some rather pugilistic talk going on his now-removed MySpace page, and apparently a quite agressive hockey player. And he's a saint, for agreeing (under who knows how much pressure) to marry his pregnant girlfiend?

lol yea Obama didn't showcase their little daughters at the convention "oh i love you daddy" while he was in St louis or wherever he was

It is amusing and the media will put the knife a little deeper into themselves as avg joe turns off the tv. Heard NBC is in for some major cuts, their president is about to get canned.

CBS news, well we know how far they have fallen.

She is a republican candidate who is against the availability of contraception. It is relevant that her teenage child had unprotected sex without birth control because it illustrates the consequences of the abstinence only education she favors, and the effect of lack of comprehensive sex education and lack of contraceptive availability for teens. Republicans are the ones that are trying to say that good parents talk to their kids about it and therefore don't need sex education in schools. Well this illustrates that either that's a faulty argument or Palin is a bad parent (or both). This is directly relevant to policy because "abstinence only" education is a 176 million dollar a year waste of taxpayer money.

This is the biggest logical fallacy of this election.

Apparently, only if you are on the "wrong" side of this issue are you and your children's sex lives fair game for investigation and attack.

If your teenage daughter gets pregnant, what exactly does that tell us about YOU? Almost absolutely nothing-- as we know teenagers who get pregnant come from all different social, economing, and political backgrounds.

If you advocate the distribution of condoms in elementary schools and junior highs and high schools, and yet your own daughter gets pregnant, does that invalidate your advocacy in way, shape, or form? I don't think so.

Finally, for the millionth time, Palin is a member of Feminists for Life, a group that not only believes in abstinence but also promotes usage of birth-control. Just because she doesn't believe that taxpayers should be paying for condoms to be passed out in every school (which I don't even think we know for sure that really is her stance) doesn't mean that she herself didn't talk to her daughter about sex, abstinence, and if necessary, protection.
The fact that you ASSUME she hasn't, or presume to know what exactly she said, only speaks volumes about YOU and not her.

Didn't Obama tell everyone that his wife was off limits and then have her give a speech at the DNC??

It is traditional for the Pres and VP to appear on stage with the families. Everyone has done it for years. Try not to make some big political statement out of it.

Palin is against comprehensive sex ed.

http://politicalticker.blogs.c...ref=ib_politicalticker

(CNN) ? Sarah Palin, who announced on Monday that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, indicated during her run for Alaska governor that she was a firm supporter of abstinence-only education in schools.

In a 2006 Eagle Forum questionnaire, Palin indicated that she supported funding abstinence-until-marriage education programs instead of teaching sex-education programs.

"Explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support," Palin wrote in the conservative group?s questionnaire.

Also, this bolded part should get nominated for Worst Abuse of Logic award or something.

Anyone that believes they can infer anything so general (and insulting) from a sample size of one is obviously lacking in knowledge, common sense, or both-- unless the general inference is "there is no 100% foolproof method to prevent your kids from having unprotected sex, short of killing them or keeping them under lock and key 24/7".

Using this same misguided logic, can we say Al and Tipper Gore are horrible parents because their son was arrested for drug use? Or Obama's mom was a horrible parent because her son admits to using drugs?

Is it sexist to question a hockey mom with 5 kids being a heart beat from the presidency?
My brother in law is a great auto mechanic with 4 kids, and I wouldn?t want him a heart beat away either.

Ok, so Obama can write a great speech.
Palin does a great job reading a speech off a teleprompter, written by Karl Rove.

Find the actual questionnaire and read the whole thing.

She talks about 'parents responsibility' about 5 or 6 times.
In her view it is the parents who should decide how much or how little sex education their children get.

Ha ha... you are in serious denial if you think Obama wrote his own acceptance speech. I remember seeing a little blurb on on the channels during the DNC about how Obama has several different speech writers that he uses depending on the circumstances (I think one of them was just 21 years old).

Sure, he was probably consulted heavily on it made a few tweaks here or there... but stop pretending that Obama is some sort of super-candidate who has enough hours in the day to campaign tirelessly all day long and write speeches in the night.

Seems QED beat me to it, but I'll post my responce also.

If you think Palin had no input in that speach, and Obama had no help with his then you must have no clue about politics.

And let me add that I'm not saying Obama's not capable of writing his own acceptance speech--he's surely proven, in the era before he had his own speechwriters, that he is a capable speech writer in his own right. However, writing your own speeches is something that's simply not done in Presidential politics-- which is why off-the-cuff questioning and comments, and (to a lesser extent) debates and town-hall meetings are a better indicator of a candidates true values and grasp of the issues.

I know, I mean whom wouldn't want their kid getting lessons how to hit it doggie style or how to do a proper blowjob from a teacher in school.

Criticism of her hair?

And somehow your hairstyle is indicative of your knowledge of current events?

LINK

But must her hair suffer? With her long, straight, often pinned-up locks, Palin looks one humid day away from fronting a Kiss cover band.

?It?s about 20 years out of date,? said Boston stylist Mario Russo of the Alaska governor?s ?do. ?Which goes to show how off she might be on current events.?

I don't see claims of anti-women bias in the media subsiding anytime soon.
