After a trip to Belgium reminded me how very much I love Belgium beer I decided I'd finally splurge and get some shipped direct to me, especially since I couldn't find my new favorites anywhere in the US: a whisky infused beer and their triple. I placed a couple of orders through different companies and the company Belgium Happiness was far and above the best experience in terms of communication, speed of shipping etc.

Welp they appear to have closed their business. Website is gone. Facebook page gone. Sigh

Belgian Tripels are absolutely delicious. There is this amazing bar in the city called The Burp Castle. It's small and has some really cool like middle ages paintings on the walls, lots of monks in them. They play Gregorian chanting for the most part, and the bartenders will hush you if you speak loudly. So the volume in there never gets too loud. Some bartenders will wear the monk robes, but most don't. All they serve are European beers on draft, on the Trappist tip. They used to have a big can and bottle selection too, but since covid it's been simplified to like 12-14 drafts.

Fucking amazing place. I think there need to be a lot more shushing bars.

Indeed they are. Too bad they're not popular in the US. And yeah that sounds like the kind of place I'd want to visit

My ideal bar experience is a tastefully dimmed quiet cocktail bar that's maybe 1/3rd to 1/2 full. Spain delivered this with style and quality drinks when we were there this spring.

Nobody talking too loudly, playing video at full volume on their phones, or the establishment blaring music so loud you can't think.
