A self-made woman... as long as you ignore all the used up, broken men in her wake. While I admired her stand in the legislature for abortion, the fact is she's the perfect representative for modern feminism, living a life built on the sacrifices of men. She doesn't have a prayer of winning of governor's race, and the smear machine is just spinning up. Wait until we start hearing from all the guys she was fucking in Boston while her husband cashed in his 401k for her to be there.

Oh give me a fucking break. Cry me a river for her second husband. He made quiet the sacrifice by minting a Harvard lawyer(on the cheap by todays standards) who stayed with him for 10 years after graduation. She sure did leave him broke, destitute, and homeless and worse off than when she married him. Yeah that is not what fucking happened you dip shit. Its exactly the opposite. Both partys were further enriched by her education and income.

And really she never had a shot at winning the Governor. Never EVER had a shot. The Texas GOP might be nervous with her money haul, but she has never had a chance. This has more to do with getting her State Senate seat back than the Governorship.

Not to worry. Women are the majority of folk going to college so soon it will be the men who are supported.

It already is. There are plenty of cases over the past 15 years where a women has been the sole financial provider for a husband going to med/dentist/law school and then less than a year after graduation turn around and divorce the wife.

Those poor men. They had no choice. She must have evil powers to trap her victims.

On a sitcom I saw, that was considered the American dream.

She graduated from Harvard in 1993, and got separated in 2003. So her ex husband invested his 401k money in her education but got half of what she earned as a lawyer for 10 years, since it's community property, and is getting child support now. I don't know about TX, but here in CA, he would also be entitled to dollar for dollar reimbursement (but no inflation adjustment) for every dollar of pre-marital 401k money he spent on her education. So essentially he has foregone 401k gains for whatever period it took him to repay the loan, in exchange for hundreds of thousands of dollars in extra income that went into community property assets that he gets half of now, and not having to pay her spousal support now. It was a very good deal for everyone involved.
I know a guy who paid for his fiancee's law school, and then she dumped him before the wedding. Now that's a real sucker right there

Child support has long been over, the kids are in the mid 20s and early 30s. There was only two years of child support involved. They were an extremely well heeled Fort Worth Power Couple before they divorced. Both of them left the marriage FAR better off than when they entered the marriage.

Democrats might have had a decent chance of winning with a good candidate, but they got snookered by a career opportunist cashing in on her 15 minutes. I wonder what her show on MSNBC will be called.

Her husband doesn't sound very happy about how "enriched" he was from the marriage.

And she's not getting her seat back, or the Governorship. She was always a sacrificial lamb for the Democratic party trying to make a big push in Texas, I just thought she was a better candidate (and person) than this.

i envision it as a combination talk/game show. she can discuss with her audience the benefits of abandoning your children for a day job, and then give away abortions hidden behind door #3

progs would eat that shit up, might even become .001% as popular as duck dynasty

I am pretty sure hes probably not that upset about the financial aspects and is more upset about how she portrays herself(and doesn't give him any credit). IE she only focus on her per-Jeff Davis life and glosses over everything else. I mean he could still be bitter about their title company but for fucks sake hes a lawyer and full well knew any business he started while married was community property and thus she owned 50% of it. Or it could be shes had a way better political career than he ever did and is jealous. However I still think his issue is the first item and not the later two.

But the base story of her narrative is accurate. I mean she did live in poverty for the first 7-8 years of her first daughters life. She did get an education. Her husband didn't earn her highest GPA from TCUs class of 1990. Nor graduation with honors from Harvard.

Sorry the rest of this is going to be crude but,

I mean come on, he was a well off 33-37 year old lawyer fucking a hot 20-24 year old coed(what guy hasn't dreamt of that). But as it turns out she also had a brain and helped raise both his and her net worth(double win) during their marriage.

So now your narrative is she abandoned her children? When she went to Harvard or when she got divorced?

Because if its the former, a shit ton of people(mostly "fathers") "abandon" their children then because they spend most of the year away on business/work. Going to Harvard t would have been a mutual decision between the two spouses. I am sure, as a lawyer, her husband was ecstatic that his wife was going to Harvard law because of the amount of money she'd be bringing in. If it is the later, well fuck as I pointed out earlier her youngest was finishing ninth grade and her oldest was finishing college when the couple separated. That is hardly abandoning her children either more so since it appears he only had joint conservator-ship with right to designate primary residence. Which means they had joint custody of the minor child. Custody wouldn't have been an issue for the adult child.

I mean yeah she could have went to SMU Law, but people either don't know or don't remember that the legal market was in the shitter around that time. Her and her husband both knew(as would anyone contemplating law school) that the odds of landing a Big Law job is a 100 times more likely out of Harvard than SMU during good legal times, even more in bad legal times. It was a financial decision. More or less a tough decision that spouses make together, unless you view marriage as a one way street where the woman is always subservient to the man.

If you get down to it, the DMN and GOP narrative has just as many omissions and misleading insinuations as Wendy Davis' narrative. Fuck you got to fill in the missing information from both sides to get the whole story.

One last comment. Good god Anandtech hits the trifecta for -isms with its incessant classism, racism, and sexism.

man, i agree. if the left ever lost their ability to manufacture this stuff out of thin air it would put a hell of a lot of folks in the unemployment line. what in the world would (could) jesse jackson, al sharpton, madcow, chrissy matthews, ed shultz, (heck even berrie would have to give up his day job) etc, etc, etc..........do. the list could go on literally forever, but don't wanna tie up too much bandwidth. thanks for pointing that out though.

That would require the rightwing to not actually be racist and sexist for a couple of minutes, and that will never happen.

You think the right wing is racist. I have a few blacks that might disagree with you. I shall name them:

Herman Cain
Ben Carson
Allen West

Calling the right wing racist is just liberal propaganda, same as the conspiracy that the right is in a war against women. All humid, fermented bullshit.....don't get any on ya.

Well hell, you found all 3 black republicans.

You might call it propaganda, everyone else calls it reality.
