$40.99 shipped, I bit. Sure is sloppy that the final order page is formated to print as two pages that chop the data in half in the middle.

Not sure why you think I work for Monarch, lol. But, no I don't work for them. I personally like newegg myself, but the best deal is the best deal. I only added Monarch into this post because a lot of folks seem to be happy with them. Well, cheers anyhow. Enjoy the deal.

Well considering the hesitation you showed in purchasing from newegg and monarch, I hope everything turns out great for you

Monarch is awesome for those living in California. No Taxes!
I have ordered from them on numerous occasions and they have been great every single time, I wouldn't worry.

Just purchased it at Monarch for $40.99. I'm thinking it'll be money well spent, considering the shape my poor Optorite DD0203 is in. At least it can still do HD-Burn, though.

EDIT: Would have bought it at newegg for $40 + $2 s/h but it lists it as Out of Stock. REPEAT: Newegg lists the 3540 as OUT OF STOCK.

Were it not out of stock I would have gladly forked over the extra $1.01 to get it from newegg. They really are the best online retailer, as far as I'm concerned.

I jumped in on the 3540 at $42 with free shipping. Great deal.

I installed it in an external enclosure. Is there a good site or post with tutorials on burning DVDs? When I initially pulled up Nero (ver. 5.5ish), it didn't seem to recognize that I had a DVD burner installed. i.e., when I went into it, the DVD option was grayed out in the Wizard.

Thx!

Yup! Price has gone up to $45.99+2 S&H+tax. I should have ordered one awhile back.

I guess my DV tapes have to wait.

I missed the $40.99 prices, but I need a new DVD burner, and need a black on at that. So I figured even $49 shipped is decent and ordered from monarchcomputer. Ordered from the site 2 days ago and they still haven't shipped it. And according to the email I got from them, it'll likely take another day before they can even ship it. I ordered from monarchcomputer after reading some good things about them on this thread, but I don't think I'll ever order from them again. I'll just stick to Newegg and pay the sales tax from now on.

Newby question: Except for the included OEM software, is there any advantage to purchasing a retail DVD burner versus an OEM burner? Looks like the 3540a isn't yet available in a retail kit.
