now they're refusing to honor the promotion.

Went in on two visits on different days and each time was told about a tablet promotion they were having. The way it was explained to me was that I could add a tablet to my plan and I would get a bonus data amount of 12GB on top of what I already pay for. It would be "free" as it wouldn't cost me anything additional monthly as the $10 monthly device access fee would be discounted to $0 for 24 months. The catch was that I would have to buy a tablet upfront, i.e., no monthly installment option, and keep it on the plan for 2 years.

I decide to take the plunge on the second visit as it happened that it was the last day for the promotion. Two days later, I log into my account and I see that I did indeed get the 12GB bonus data but I didn't get $10 discount on the access fee. I contact the Verizon store that helped me, but they're not going to honor the monthly discount. Their reasoning is because I have discounts on my other lines already. WTF? First, I got the discounts because those lines are out of contract. Second, those lines have nothing to do with the promotion.

What are my options at this point? Contact the BBB and file a complaint? Or FCC? Or both? Anyone else? As all of this was a verbal transaction, its basically my word against theirs.

TLDR version:
Went into Verizon store on two different visits on different days.
Told about tablet promotion by reps on each visit.
Decided to go for it on second visit.
Couples days later, checked account and full terms of promotion not being honored.
Contacted Verizon store and they are refusing to do anything (at this point) citing unrelated discounts I am receiving on my other lines.

Contact Verizon corporate first. You might also request them (and/or the store) denying you the promotion (and any proof of said promotion and that you should have qualified). Then if Verizon corporate doesn't honor it contact the FCC.

I'm sure it's in the fine print somewhere, something like "multiple discounts do not apply." It's the fault of those employees trying to sell you the deal without mentioning the caveats. I'd give the store a bad review on Yelp.

Edit: But yeah, corporate might be able to do something.

This x 10.

I've had nothing but problems dealing with the mouth-breather's in the Verizon stores. Its gotten to the point where I will only deal with Verizon customer support over the phone.
And they lied to me too. Told me when I added the kid's line that they would wave the $40 activation if I let them do it over the phone instead of going in the store. They didn't. Called back and the guy told me that he didn't see anything in the notes about the $40 but he could refund me $20. They didn't.

I have a call logger/recorder at the office. I will never not record future conversations.

OP - I had a VERY similar experience.

I was previously with TMobile, paying ~$100. Went into Verizon, they basically laid out a price plan that would essentially get us the exact same coverage for ~$90 a month, PLUS a promotion of $100 for each line we port over.

Well, apparently the sales person at the Verizon store told us wrong. Because the promotion was apparently ONLY if we bought a phone as well (I'm not 100% sure here, because I was originally told that qualified for another $100 credit). Regardless, we were told we would receive the $100 port-in credit per line. I looked for it on every statement, called eventually after ~2-4 months. Continued pestering asking where it was, etc....

Apparently someone looked into it a little further and simply told me that I didn't qualify for the promotion. They said to go back to the store we purchased and speak with the manager. Well we did - and I brought my wife... When she gets pissed, holy crap you don't want to be in the line of fire. The manager didn't admit the mistake, but essentially told us that the sales person must have told us wrong. Eventually with enough of my wife he offered to go half-way ($100 instead of $200). My wife wouldn't have it and demanded the full $200 that was promoted to us and to be responsible for your employees... He gave in

Just my story, sadly if you want to try and get the promotion - it sounds like you need to go back to the store you were told/purchased it at.

Idk ... admittedly I've had to be a total hard-ass with the folks at corporate a few times in the past to get my way but ultimately I always have. Whats more the last few times they caved almost immediately.

Maybe I'm in some kind of special "don't fuck with him he's a pita" file?
