The BMW 3 series are such small cars. Geez, I tried to sit in the back and there's no leg room for someone who is 5' 11". My friend who owned the car found himself with a broken 1st gear and decided on the same day not to deal with it. He traded the car for a lexus ES and now he's happy with a bigger and much better car. That beamer is not worth $45K. No sane person would pay an extra $15K for the BMW name.

I ended up ditching the G35x and went with the Sport Auto. This car has been a blast for it's price range for me, and I've got quite a variety of vehicles.

I was having my infiniti serviced so I got the new 2007 sedan as a loaner. I kept it for 3 days and damn! what a car. It simply begs to go fast.
I love that car.

But with a base of 42k, isnt that a bit different? I would prolly be looking at 45-46k with options...

Oh, but go drive one...and suddenly the price just won't be a big deal.

I test drove a loaded last-gen G35 against a BMW 330i, and the BMW was just so much more refined it's not funny. I bet things haven't changed much.

The 3-series is still the benchmark for a reason.

But with a lack of reliability. I know so many people who go out and buy a nice bimmer only to end up having it fall apart. Their long-term quality is a shadow of what it used to be 10 years ago.

Buddy of mine at an old job had a 95 330, thing was perfect until somebody t-boned him a year and a half ago, totalling it. He went out and bought an 03 330, a year later and stuff is falling off of it, it rattles, and he's had it in the garage a couple times.

Too bad to, he says its a lot of fun.

If you can afford to buy a BMW, you can afford to maintain it.

But yeah, with the (easily $10k) additional sticker cost, plus the additional maintenance costs, the 335i and the G35 are not really in the same class.
Plus, BMW's are made to be leased, not bought outright.

Poor excuse.
I may be able to afford a 335, but if it's going to spend lots of time in the shop, then I'd rather not.

I wanted to get an Infiniti G35x as it offered the nice blend of luxury and AWD at an affordable price (even with all the fancy extras!) But unfortunately, I would've had to drive nearly 100 miles to the closest Infiniti dealer and that doesn't sound like a fun drive every time I "hear a funny noise." So I went with the Nissan Altima 3.5SL with all the options instead... but unfortunately for me, I set my insurance to start tomorrow and they got the car ready a day early. So now I get to sit here going "I wonder how nice it will be to drive..." (as they only had 3.5SE's at the dealer, SL's lack the sport suspension giving them a smoother ride).

I can't wait to have a nice relaxing drive back to work after getting it .

Off topic (this is ATOT after all), but you can unlock the trip computer on your Mazda3 by doing the following:

1) Hold FM 1/2 and CD button down simultaneously with key at the OFF position
2) Turn key to ACC and you will see HELLO followed by DIS ON
3) Turn off key and then turn key to ON position or start engine.
4) The trip computer is on, though you don't see it till you do step 5.
5) Use SET to toggle between functions (replaces clock)
6) Press clock to go back to clock display and set to trip display

Note: Does not work on the 04 and 05 models.

Personally, I think statements like this are laughable at best, completely silly at worst.

1. If I buy a car and plunk down major bank, I do NOT want to have crap go wrong every week.

2. If crap goes wrong, it's in the garage, meaning I have a loaner

3. If crap keeps going wrong it means that I spend less time driving and more time in the garage

4. Why buy a garage car?

The hassle alone of an unreliable car makes it so I demand a price discount, not a premium. If I have to keep bringing it, garaging it, and dealing with the crap, then why buy at all?

Its like a person I know who bought an S4. It spent 8 weeks out of 16 in the garage until Audi finally gave her a brand new car.

Personally, I'd rather buy a car on reliability, less hassle, and quality than perceived (but not actual) quality and brand name.

i would drive the 335 just for fun...i'm not quite sure how the 3 series would fair against a G35 as i've never been able to drive the hell out of one. i drove a 2005 M3 brand new, manual like a year and a half ago. it was during rush hour though so i couldn't really drive it. i drove a G35 a few months later and man did that thing drive.

imo, the sedan doesn't look that great but the coupe is amazing. it's definitely a more affordable car and you should be satisfied owning one

Being able to understand the contrarian position does not mean that you have to support it.

I think imma get me one of these on lease. What do you think the lease payments per month are on a 3 year lease for a G35 Sport edition?

Anywhere from $1 to $1000 per month

There is no way to know without knowing the purchase price, money market factor, and residual.

Edit- I <3 the G35...especially the new models...LOVE em.

People shouldnt lease primary cars, IMO. THAT is trying to acquire they cannot afford. Leasing a secondary/fun car? sure.. with less obligation and attachments

Edmunds (along with a bunch of other mags) raced a 335i and a G37 coupe around a course all day, guess which one conked out first? (psst, it wasn't the G37)

I know what I think about Infiniti

a car is spent 90% of its life just parked some where.

I'd get the G35 and pocket the extra cash.

2007 350z runs 13.3 1/4
STOCK
(only 2007 - new model)

So, I bet the G35 will run very similar.

G35 is pretty cheap (relatively) see if your employee has VPP, then you basically get the care for invoice + .85%.

VPP

no need to negotiate, price is pre-set at invoice + .85% but it only works on cars on the lot.

I had a G35 rental, new style, for a couple days. Definitely a nice car overall, particularly the powertrain, but the interior had a bit of cheap/hard feel. It got all kinds of bad attention also, a couple of new bmws tried racing me, some black guy in a GS400 stared me down and then did a burn out next to me. Plus it was a thirsty bitch, each 50+ mile trip was almost a quarter tank.

maintenance for BMWs may suck, but everything down to oil changes is covered for a couple years and the service is good. My coworkers mini, shared bmw dealership, flatbedded a 325i loaner to our work when it needed service. I wouldn't buy one if nothing else because i consider poor reliability a reflection of an aspect of bad engineering, but some people don't care esp if the service is good.

try getting in the back of the 5 door 1 series..... i guarantee unless you are smaller than a microbe you wont be going in.

they had it on TG and even hammond couldnt get in the back...such a pointless car, and a fully loaded 130i costs £32k!

you could have a fully loaded focus ST (european) which would whoop its ass, and still have money left over for a good used 2nd car.

its a shame with BMW, they make great handling cars with superb engines, but they're letting things slip. they overcomplicate things with iDrive and multiple settings for absolutely everything, theres some annoying and obvious problems in some of their cars (indicators wont self cancel in the M5 lol which isnt better than the old M5 till you press the M button)

3 series new dash is boring as ****** and the normal 3 series looks like a civic

i remember there was a car called the 320 M-sport.......130bhp, 10 second 0-60. hardly worthy of any link to the M division.

some times i really do think BMW test the idea of selling BMW badged turds just to see if it holds true, that people will still buy it.
