Went to North Korea....

Here are the links to a couple images of this thing that was in the nightstand of our hotel room. We went to Mt. Geumgang about 3 weeks before the incident where the South Korean woman was shot.

Aaaaanyway, maybe it's a very technical... phone? It was plugged into the phone and the alarm clock. Of course just going to North Korea puts you in super-spy mode haha. Just curious.

So that thing that I think says "Light Control" is also an alarm clock? I could be for remote control of the lights/etc. through the hotel phone lines. The box looks like it was cobbled from parts at Home Depot. Looks like a standard telephone interface + microcontroller + relays on the internal board.

Can't read the photo since it turned the wrong way .. But I tend to agree with Roguestar ... probably Heat / AC / Room Lights

You more or less just cross in from South Korea.

A friend of mine went to North Korea on a volunteering mission last year.

Incidentally haven't hear from her since...

Yes, you have to go with a tour group and you can only go to designated areas. Basically you are on a tour compound patrolled by military and you can only leave it by means of buses with a tour guide.

As far as I'm aware you can only go to Gaesong, Geumgang, and Pyongyang. The first two are bus tours from S. Korea and for the last you have to go through China. However, I'm not sure if Geumgang has reopened since the shooting.

It was totally surreal.

It costs 450 to say one night and you can only go on a guided tour bus.
