So, I was originally shopping for a low priced 4K TV for my home office in the 40"-50" range, I never experienced 4K at home, I have 1080p 63" Samsung Plasma and 1080p 3D BenQ Projector and 105" screen for my home Theater needs.

Considering how cheap 4K TVs are right now, I decided to get one just to "play" with it for 4K TV/video viewing, then I found the 40" 4K HDR(sort of) Samsung KU6290 for $289 at BestBuy for this holdiay..which according to rtings http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ku6300, it is the same as KU6300 but without Bluetooth and smart remote which I couldn't care less, and it is actually GREAT as PC monitor because it supports 4K@60Hz and Chroma 4:4:4 with low input lag in game mode of no more than 36ms.

I got it and decided it to try it first as my monitor instead as a TV for my office, going from my Acer 1440p 144Hz TFT monitor, I didn't know what I was expecting...but after an hour of using it...I was blown away

Dear god, 4K on 40" is like having a personal IMAX, my eyes are still getting adjusted to the sheer size of the screen, but I love it

Only issues is screen tearing with vsync off specially coming from 144Hz, and 4K gaming performance on GTX 1080, the 1080 is enough for almost all games (except Crysis 3) at 4K with maximum settings, but certainly would be looking to get GTX 1080 Ti or Vega

Screen tearing is annoying, I turned on vsnyc in a lot of games, and honestly I don't feel much input lag, specially if the game supports adaptive vsync such as Doom, so I am OK with it.

So, even with some screen tearing, and getting adjusted to the lower frame rate for now, it is a completely different experience to have 40" 4K monitor 2 feet from you..I am only concerned about my eyes though..still.

So here you have it, I am gaming on 4K now...and love it.

PS: I don't think it is worth it to go 4K as a monitor on screen less than 40", just not worth it IMO.

I am with you mate. Congrats.

I have a 40'' Samsung but 1080p. I am very interested in the step you took, but I don't want to lose my 3D.

I'd love to find a solution that could give me 120hz/1080p and 60hz/1080p per eye in 3D. Now that would be something.

I understand 4k is amazing. I have only caught a glimpse of it through VSR, which I am sure is miles away.

Still the immersion of 3D, even is small indies like Two Brothers, Sinemora and AAA ones, like Diablo III is something that I am not willing to lose, even at half res.

I will be looking for 4K in a couple of years time, so hopefully something better will be out by then.

Congrats and have fun with it.

I'm just about to make that jump too. I placed an order for one of these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889651008&ignorebbr=1
Never heard of the brand, and supposedly it's only 4:2:0. If I had seen this thread before I ordered it, I probably would have held off and considered that Samsung. Though, is it a "smart TV"? I don't want a Samsung smart TV, for reasons.

I also placed an order a day ago, for an i5-6400 Skylake quad-core CPU, that I plan to throw into a B150 K4/Hyper mobo, and BCLK OC it to 4.5Ghz, along with 16GB of DDR4, and an SSD.

The video card though, that's kind of a dilemma. I don't PC game much anymore, so the 4K display is mostly for desktop usage, and watching YouTube.

I'm torn between installing a GTX950 2GB or my RX 460 4GB Nitro card. Both have HDMI 2.0 outputs. Neither is really capable of playing 3D games at 4K res.

Personal IMAX...great descriptor I feel the same way but didn't have a good way of describing it earlier. I'll borrow that if you don't mind haha.

I got a 40" 4K monitor last year on a great deal... I was iffy on it at first due to how big it was, but now I'm used to it. The particular version I got allows me to assign inputs to all 4 quadrants @ 1080p resolution which is pretty cool. I can also do top 2 quadrants for 1 input, etc. Pretty nifty.

Now I don't think I can go lower lol... but I do play most things in windowed mode now and have other stuff up.

I'm using the 32 inch qnix monitor at 4k. I never want to go back to non 4k. It's beautiful. I actually like it more for desktop than gaming

Hey Hannoo, you are using desktop enlargment right?

Your desktop seems to be about the same size as my 1080p 40'' setup.

I'm debating between this tv and the Sony X750D both at 65" though do you like the TV?

If tvs don't offer this option I will be unbelievably angry. 4 input 1080p is so amazing. Perfect for split screen gaming too. It's too bad the side by side isn't that useful.

Woah.... You got a 4k resolution device? What's next, are you going to start getting i5s and i7s? Maybe even a decently powerful gpu?

Either you're joining the high end crowd, or 4k just became low-end.... Darn, guess I need an 8k monitor now.

LOL. You're a little late. I did get an i5-6400, after RS's suggestion in another thread, to get that rather than wait for an i3-7350K KBL CPU, and BCLK OC it. Well, I already had the boards to BCLK OC it, so I said F the budget, why not.

So yeah, I've upgraded to a i5-6400 @ 4.51Ghz, and a 40" 4K UHD HDR TV, in the same week.

Guess that's the new low end, if I can afford it.

Btw, the i5-6400 was $180.50 from mp3superstore on ebay, and the 40" 4K UHD HDR TV was $219.99 from Newegg on ebay. (But, NO RETURNS on the TV, from Newegg, kind of disappointing.)

Ya I just saw that i5 post. I personally think it's an ugly processor but that's a great price for an i5 that ocs.
Looks like you just need to get the gtx 1070 now and you have an amazing setup. I'm in love with 4k though. It's just beautiful.

After getting my 4K UHD HDR TV today, and setting it up, and watching some 4K YouTube, and playing some Skyrim (vanilla), I have to agree! Thank you for this thread! It motivated me to go 4K too. (And thanks to Newegg, for the sale-priced $220 TV.)

I was previously looking a 28" 4K PC monitor, with freesync. That might have made the video card requirements less onerous for 4K gaming, but after seeing 4K on a 40", I don't know how I would have managed on a 28", unless I changed the Windows 10 scale factor to 150%.

Yep, that's my next move. Might have to save up a few months, got some car work to take care of soon, and I already overspent this month.

But yeah, I'm looking at a 1070 card. The one BFG posted in his thread looks interesting, it's a "mini" card, and it turns off the fan at low load. (Good for desktop / video watching, both for noise, as well as fan longevity.)

http://www.portvapes.co.uk/?id=Latest-exam-1Z0-876-Dumps&exid=threads/my-gtx1070-vs-titan-6gb-comparison-50-games-tested.2492264/

GTX1070 comfortably faster than an OG Titan, by like 50-70%!

That sounds amazing to me, I remember, the Titan cards used to be like $1000 at intro, I think.

I love it, picture quality is just amazing for the price, blacks, color and contrast ratio are very good.

It depends on what you need from the TV, the Sony handles motion better than the Samsung and has slightly better response time (12ms vs 18ms for that Samsung), that Sony model also supports smooth 24p for movies and blu-rays with no judder, but has worse black levels and less contrast than the Samsung, and the Samsung KU6300/6290 possibly have better image quality/contrast overall.

I think if you will consume more movies/blu-rays I would go with the Sony, otherwise get the Samsung

Check rtings for both for your reference:

Samsung KU6300: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ku6300

HannooFX, after using your 40" 4K for a few days, do you find using it, more tiring? I'm starting to think so, with mine. Unfortunately, I can't really adjust mine in 4K mode (TV limitation).

Your TV's 4:2:0 limitation is likely a factor there. Text is often harder to read, especially on dark backgrounds. I've had a TV as my primary monitor for many, many years now.

I did this earlier this year. I bought a 4:4:4 49" 4K Wasabi Mango TV w/Freesync from NewEgg. Other than one stuck pixel that you don't really notice while gaming it's absolutely gorgeous playing games on it. You can sit a few feet away and the pixels are about the same size as a 24" 1080P screen but it covers your entire view. If I had to do it again though I would probably go 42/43" as this monitor is just a little too big to fit on a computer desk. Everyone is going crazy for 21:9 UWS displays but with a 4K TV that envelops your entire view, and no weird FOV or annoying compatibility issues to deal with, I think the large screen 4K TV's as a monitor make more sense. For causal gaming anyway

Well, HannooFX is using a scaling factor of 150%. I'm trying that now. Before I had it set to 125%, which was just a tad too small for me, reading the forums in Waterfox.

I don't think that the 4:2:0 is all that significant a limitation, for white/black contrasting text.
