Just a few bad apples...writting a few thousand fake tickets to skew the fact that they are racially discriminating

It’s not clear yet if they were trying to cover up racial profiling, but it’s certainly a motivation to consider.

It also makes them look more productive, and potentially getting more OT depending on what point of their shift they’re submitting false traffic stops.

Either way, this is huge, widespread, and not just CT. Policing is 100% a numbers game, just like any other service.

Australia this time.

95 year-old woman shuffles towards them using a walking frame, holding a knife. So of course they tase her. No other option, obviously. How could a cop possibly be expected to outrun a 95-year-old with a walking frame, or disarm her?

I suppose had it been the US they'd have shot her, mind.

bit of an update, the dude is rightfully fucked....

~Senior Constable White was allegedly heard to say "stop just ... Na ah heck it" before using the taser, the police documents state.

Going some way off the topic of "cops", and into really super-bleak territory, this is a huge story at the moment

What strikes me is that, as with Harold Shipman, what would surely have helped would have been having systems in place to quickly spot statistical abnormalities over things like death rates?

Her motives seem absolutely unfathomable, to me. Not sure there's any real way to completely protect against such apparently completely random madness, but proper monitoring surely would have picked up that _something_ was going wrong much earlier?

Another one

A man recruited by the Metropolitan police as an officer despite being accused of raping a child was convicted on Wednesday of 13 counts of raping a woman and a child, as well as kidnap.

This guy was recruited several months _after_ Couzens murdered Sarah Everard. As the article above points out, he got the job at the same time as those in charge of the Met were expressing horror at the previous rapist-murderer cop and declaring 'never again' and that it was a lone 'bad apple'.

A particularly bizarre, and extreme, example

François Vérove appeared on the game show Everyone Wants to Take Their Place in 2019
One of France's most elusive serial killers appeared on a popular television game show during the 35-year police hunt for him, where he spoke about keeping people safe.
Francois Vérove, also known as “the pockmarked killer” because of his complexion, has been linked to nine murders, including minors, and 30 cases of rape and abuse.
The married former officer of the cavalry regiment of the Republican Guard managed to evade capture for decades, even though he appeared in 2019 on the show Everyone Wants to Take Their Place on state channel France 2.

(It's not clear to me from the article if he appeared on the gameshow while being a fugitive, i.e. the cops were actively looking for him, or if his appearance occurred before they had identified him as a suspect. The headline seems to imply the former, but the dates in the article seem to imply the latter - which is a bit less shocking. Either way, it seems he was involved in the investigation of at least one of the murders he latter confessed to - which sounds like the plot of a movie)

This one's more farcical than fascist - it's like a plot-line from Eastenders Brookside. That it all came to a head in the carpark of Screwfix would have been a nice touch by the script-writers, if someone had written it.

A former police officer has claimed he acted in self-defence when he punched an inspector who he caught having sex with his wife, a jury has heard.
Gavin Harper, 45, had placed a tracking device on the car driven by his wife, policewoman Stephanie Glynn, because he said he suspected her of having an affair.
He followed her to a Screwfix car park in Birkenhead, Merseyside, where he found her having sex with her colleague, Andrew McLullich, 42, on the back seat on the evening of 16 February 2021, Liverpool Crown Court was told.

Weird thing to do.

He claimed he had served in the Royal Navy for 10 years, when he had served for only two; had attended the prestigious Britannia Royal Naval College, despite his application being rejected; and had been a military negotiator in Haiti, when he had never been to the country.

Adderley had previously claimed that the South Atlantic medal he has been pictured wearing since at least 2012 was given to him by his brother Richard when he emigrated to Australia in 2008.

The medal was awarded to British military personnel and civilians for service in the Falklands conflict, but Richard Adderley did not embark for the Falklands until 2 July 1982, three weeks after hostilities ended on 14 June, the hearing heard.

He applied for the medal – under a change in criteria for applicants put in place in 2015 – on 12 October 2023, 10 days after Nick Adderley received a notice of investigation from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

I don't really see what practical benefit he got out of exaggerating his military record like that. I suppose it was largely an ego thing?

This happens all the time over here, especially among Republicans. Lying about service then getting found out is a routine scandal.

One of the things that does not get brought up enough about McCarthyism is that its namesake was one of those assholes (claimed military accolades that he absolutely did not have). Why that didn't lead to him getting publicly flogged I'll never know. Guy was one of the most full of shit asswipes in American history. I'm pretty sure it was even known at the time and it didn't cost him politically. Its a shame that those that were put in front of him didn't refuse to answer any of his questions out of scorn for such disgrace. But then we know how much of a sham that was.

Also people don't seem to know Reagan did the same shit (lied about his service, I think he was actually one of the worst ones, like he is basically Turmp level, and I think he claimed acting roles as things he really did) and also had a hand in the whole McCarthyism shit.

A particularly bizarre, and extreme, example

In my experience a lot of the fucking problem with police is either military mindset or desire for military valor mindset. Which its all just toxic masculinity bullshit, but our societies glamorize military service, and so the, not sure what you'd call them as they aren't clinical psychopaths but clearly have a problem in their minds, people that drive much of the ills of our societies, be they full of shit clowns like Turmp or Bush Jr (both notable chickenshits when it came to military service - which I have no problem with refusing military service especially with how often its blatantly unjust, but them acting tough and condemning others that actually did serve is what makes them true chickenshits), or the garden variety asswipes that play soldier by playing CoD and buying "tactical loadout" gear and the like, push this idolization of military service.

I believe I pointed it out in another post somewhat recently, a lot of the mentality that people are going "wtf?" about in police is also very prevalent in the military.

There was another recent thread about police sexually victimizing young people, and same deal. In the wake of the Vanessa Guillen rape and murder was an outpour about how prevalent sexual misconduct in the military is. Something like 80% of military personnel say they've experienced sexual harassment, and I think over 50% had what would be considered assault. For women I think its even higher, and its also more severe (meaning, male military will have their sexuality questioned mockingly but for women its like full on stalking and repeated unwanted sexual advancements that often is reported but not acted upon by superiors). It is difficult to understate just how prevalent this shit is in both.

Weird thing to do.

Yes its an ego thing borne out of toxic masculinity that is prevalent in societies, and especially in the police and military.

Probably a mix of police needing recruits (some places are offering like $25k signing bonuses) and the person not divulging that. We know a shitload of police lied about their backgrounds. Hell, I had a high school friend that became a cop that had like 5 DUIs, 2 arrests for violence, and he was able to get all of it diverted or otherwise plead to misdemeanors or something so it didn't affect him becoming a cop.

I've encountered at least 3 people that lied to the military about debilitating health conditions that would have prevented them from being accepted. Two of them were people that had conditions causing them to randomly blackout. One had totaled multiple cars from blacking out while driving. I think they both wanted to be fighter pilots. The one actually got into the Air Force Academy from what I heard, and then died after they lost consciousness and fell off the balcony at a party or something. The other was basically being bureaucrated out of the military (aka, they wouldn't just kick him out because of the health stuff, so instead they were making him jump through a whole bunch of hoops hoping he'd get frustrated and quit; which they only found out about his health issues because of divorce proceedings which was...a whole thing). The 3rd didn't get accepted, but he was also one of the dumbest people I've ever met so he probably lied to them about health issues while he gave them his doctor's note to limit strenuous activity and not consume caffeine because of his heart condition.

I don't know if people realize how many people really bullshit their way through life.

Oh, believe me I KNOW!

Look at what Bill Gates did (told IBM he could provide them a disk based OS when he had no idea what it would take to write one or in how much time and then bought QDOS for $50,000 without telling them that they were gonna sell it to IBM. He got sued later for that but calmly walked away by settling for a mere fraction of what he made from MSDOS sales.

That’s fine and probably legit. I find it odd that someone with sickle cell got hurt in a fight and is complaining about getting hurt in a fight they seemingly willingly entered.

gotta love legalized robbery civil forfeiture, home of the free (to rob you blind)

I was just about to post this. This kind of stuff is fucking ridiculous and needs some serious legislative curbs.

Also, for anyone sending stuff that could fall into this trap, consider using USPS only. At least then you have a federally protected shipping method.
