That's somewhat disingenuous. The Matrix would be "just another movie" because so many movies aped it's action sequences and art style for years after it's release. Though I bet a lot of the action and choreography was ripped from kung fu movies.I thought all 3 were good. As a stand alone movie the Matrix was one of the greatest of its time, but that time has passed. If it came out today it wouldn't be as exciting, but good nonetheless. That said - prior to releasing the Matrix, their advertising / marketing team knew how to play it out. EVERYONE was like WTH is the Matrix??? Since that was uncovered in the first movie, how do you build up such an awesome plot again? It is rough.
So with that said they went for action and a decent plot, although completely strayed from the first. The first should be viewed as its own movie, with 2 and 3 building off each other. I like all 3.
never watched the sequels...did i save myself from harm?

lolI don't know why lot of people think they sucked. I think they were fine. Really the way Matrix goes, you pretty much have to watch 1 2 and 3 back to back within a short enough period of time as that's how you get the full story out of it.

I HATED Reloaded but was neutral toward Revolutions. Neither was anything special but Reloaded was an abortion of a sequel.

If the Matrix hadn't come out when it did, film of the last 13 years would be vastly different. It influenced pretty much every action flick that came afterwards.
In the sequels, it seems like our director bros. are obsessed with the notion of cause-and-effect. What's so damn interesting about that?
I was really hoping for an explanation of a couple major plot holes in the first movie:
1) Of all species on earth, humans apparently give off the most body heat? Really?
2) Basic laws of thermodynamics violated by pretending you can continually produce infinite energy from re-liquefying human remains to feed each generation. "Combined with a form of fusion." Oh. I guess that explains it!
Seriously, it would have been easy to say the machines were using the untapped potential in our brains for nearly infinite computational power...like generating the Matrix itself.
...or something more believable than "human batteries."
