I thought all 3 were good. As a stand alone movie the Matrix was one of the greatest of its time, but that time has passed. If it came out today it wouldn't be as exciting, but good nonetheless. That said - prior to releasing the Matrix, their advertising / marketing team knew how to play it out. EVERYONE was like WTH is the Matrix??? Since that was uncovered in the first movie, how do you build up such an awesome plot again? It is rough.

So with that said they went for action and a decent plot, although completely strayed from the first. The first should be viewed as its own movie, with 2 and 3 building off each other. I like all 3.
That's somewhat disingenuous. The Matrix would be "just another movie" because so many movies aped it's action sequences and art style for years after it's release. Though I bet a lot of the action and choreography was ripped from kung fu movies.

In the sequels, it seems like our director bros. are obsessed with the notion of cause-and-effect. What's so damn interesting about that?

I was really hoping for an explanation of a couple major plot holes in the first movie:
1) Of all species on earth, humans apparently give off the most body heat? Really?
2) Basic laws of thermodynamics violated by pretending you can continually produce infinite energy from re-liquefying human remains to feed each generation. "Combined with a form of fusion." Oh. I guess that explains it!

Seriously, it would have been easy to say the machines were using the untapped potential in our brains for nearly infinite computational power...like generating the Matrix itself.

...or something more believable than "human batteries."

First one was great. I thought the second was OK and the third was a piece of shit.

unfortunately no one can be told what the matrix is..... you have to see it for yourself.

i didnt know so many people liked 3 more than 2. 3 just started to get weird and confusing

Ok well with your logic it means the first war movie ever made should be the one to go by, when we know we'd probably stab ourselves in the brains having to sit through it. Modern day war flicks will be better due to filming and effects. It is just the way technology progresses.

So we have to use today's standpoint, especially if the movie wasn't viewed upon release.

I don't know why lot of people think they sucked. I think they were fine. Really the way Matrix goes, you pretty much have to watch 1 2 and 3 back to back within a short enough period of time as that's how you get the full story out of it.

actually, tried watching revolutions today, turned it off in the middle. Terrible. Total let from the previous movies, or the recently watched Minority Report.

If you think the worst piece of shit to ever crap from the rancid assholes of two mediocre directors and two abysmally bad screenwriters is considered good, then you might like them.

As for most people with a minor twitching of taste and self-respect, these were horrid films.

The "story" sucked. The 1st Matrix was strong all around. The 2nd and 3rd had decent action scenes; that's about it. Neither of the sequels lived up to people's expectations. That was probably impossible to do anyway. But, as a way to kill 120 minutes, there are a LOT of much worse movies out there.

I HATED Reloaded but was neutral toward Revolutions. Neither was anything special but Reloaded was an abortion of a sequel.

this.

I have no idea how anyone can think that the 3rd is actually worse than the 2nd. the 3rd is just a dumb and poorly written action flick.

The 2nd was clearly made by assclowns as a display of their clear and absolute hatred towards everything related to film. It is a disgrace.

If the Matrix hadn't come out when it did, film of the last 13 years would be vastly different. It influenced pretty much every action flick that came afterwards.

I thought it was obvious. Plot device!

Do you watch vampire movies and get pissed because it can't be real. Stick to documentaries or accpet that plotndevices exist.

The movies are glorious orgasms for your eyeballs/eardrums. The people who don't like it are obviously poor and watch the movies on LCDs with soundbars.

I remember seeing the battle for the dock in theaters and practically ruined my pants. The amount of data that scene pushed for the time was absurd.

Expecting to have your mind blown 3 consecutive times is a little unfair. The story was fine but people QQ cause it didn't go their way.
