Bought my first PC in 98 and have been online ever since. Built my first PC in 2003 thanks to the information I found online.

i miss the day before the internet. things were much simpler.
Simpler like:
- if you wanted to talk to someone, you had to find a landline phone and hope the other person was there
- if you wanted to send someone a document, you had to snail mail it
- if you wanted to look something up, you had to go to the library
- if you wanted to wank off to porn, you had to buy the dirty magazines and/or moves (unless you had the hookups to bootlegged VHS copies)

I think sometime around 1998 with 56k dialup with AOL. My dad was originally going to go with AT&T dialup, but the program wouldn't install properly. The tech for AT&T on the phone told him he had to go online and download the patch to fix it. LOL, how do you download a patch when you're trying to install a program to get online in the first place. At that point, we just went with AOL. Around 2002, got cable internet service and dumped the dialup stuff...

I can't quite remember. I don't think so, though. If I had to guess, I'd say I was online by '97-'98

i miss the day before the internet. things were much simpler.

Things were better then.
Men were still men.
Certain folk weren't allowed to vote.
A man's word still counted for something.
Women were still chained to the stove.

I went online in late 1995.

Early 1996 I think.. with a 33.6kbps modem and my Amiga1200, using iBrowse for the web and YAM for email.

Compuserve did all this in the 80's...

Got my first PC in 1984, back when many "IBM clones" were sure to advertise that their reverse engineered BIOS' were "fully IBM compatible," which was still an evolving and imperfect art back then!

Got my first Cardinal modem shortly thereafter, which I used to access the PACS (Philadelphia Area Computer Society) bulletin board. I still remember the glowing green screen on the sultry summer evening when I first connected. It was thrilling!

Those PACS monthly meetings were hella cool and vastly informative. I felt like I was part of a Band of Brothers. Being a command-line guy, I took to DOS like a duck to water. Good times.
