Long story short, John Raese pretended to be unable to pronounce "Sotomayor" and goes through a series of names beginning with S that aren't even remotely similar, like Sarah Manorgan. Someone corrects him, but he settles on "Sonny Menor".
Raese did the same thing to energy secretary Steven Chu, calling him Dr. Cho, Dr. Chow, and then settled on Dr. Chow Mein.
The only place I've found that you can listen to the audio of both "gaffes": http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_ne...egy-20-still-about-race-only-now-its-national
Interesting how these stories never made it to the mainstream media aside from Rachel Maddow's show. At any other time within the last few decades, the blatant display of bigotry would be the death knell of a campaign, but not in 2010. Remember how much flak Joe Biden caught for calling Obama "articulate", which was a faux pas but not intended to be insulting or demeaning in any way?
Ah well, at least the story about Raese looking for "hicky blue collar looking people" for his TV ads did make it to the mainstream media.
