so, the straight price from Outpost is ~$170, right? Isn't that still a decent price for this drive? Is there anyplace better to buy this drive at the moment?

Is this the 'fastest' IDE drive out there? I want a good drive for video editing, would you recommend this one? thanks.

I called BVG phone number and the rep stated that gold and platinum are not losing BVG as far as they know.

Couple weeks ago, I called to check if my platinum's BVG still working for not, a rep told me only Gold and Blue are discontinued as she know. Last week, I called to Amex to PM my Epson 820 bought from OM and the rep told me that platinum and Gold will be expired in June. Well, I think not all the rep at AMEX know about this, so I just buy anything before June just in case it'll be expired soon.

OT, re: BVG: I don't care if anyone believes me or not, but on the top of my Optima Platinum card statement, just received today, it says:
Please be advised that as of June 1,2002, the Best Value Guarantee will no longer be available on your Optima card
FYI I have had this card for over 3 years, use it regularly, have always paid on time, and I have NEVER made a BVG claim on it. So if they're canceling it for me, I can't imagine who they would allow to keep it. I presume they are killing it for any card that doesn't have an annual fee ...

>Dreday,

>Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Citibank's PM let's you PM online retailers.

My understand is so long as the purchase is made online, paid in full with the click card, and a claim is made within 60 days, its good.

The competitors price may or may not be an online merchant (could be B&M) to my understanding.

I got the policy here someplace (fine print).

As for the 3 gran that someone mentioned, I could of sworn it was either 2 gran or 5 gran.

Damn shiznits.. gonna make me dig it out..

--------------------

what is covered

new consumer products not intended for commerical use, puchased on the internet from a non auction internet merchant and paid for entirely with your click citi platinum select card.

What is NOT covered

any purchase NOT made on the internet
any purchase not made from an internet site whose primary purpose is the sale of merchandise
<blah blah blah>
60 days to make a claim
used items
labor
stuff and mounted animals <eye roll>
perishables
shipping
non domestic purchases

more bs deleted (Im not typing all of this)

but essentially, printed advertisements and internet advertisements qualify
-----------------------

About cancelation of the card.. Yes the card is no longer offered, but from the 8 times or so I've called asking if it will be renewed for existing members, the concensus thus far has been yes 100% of the time. This as all things of course may change as november draws near..

They used to have all the terms on a web site, but it appears to be no longer.

If I'm really bored one day, or if someone else wants to do this, a scan of the booklet would be nice.

I hope they keep it alive, but I'm not too optimistic about it.
If Amex kills it on all of their cards, there is no motivation for Citi to keep it alive.
Damn it. I only used this feature for 130.00 or so.

Any Click Citi card member got this deal with pm?
I'd like to try but I don't need any drive yet.

You know I really like newegg.com, for all they're deals but this is pretty cool. Unfortunately I just got a 60 gig off new egg.

Does anyone know if BVG will issue more than 1 reimbursement for the same product? If I buy 2 of these drives and PM them...will I get 2 checks? (assuming that I have not exceeded any BVG limit)

thanks

Yes, you can buy multiples of the same item and receive reimbursement for each of the same items. I would place seperate orders for them to aviod any problems with the reabtes though. You can call BVG at 1-800-557-8317 to confirm.

I just tried to order this drive from Outpost (still a good deal without the PM @ $169), and the $20 instant rebate wouldn't show in my cart, so I called them, and they said the price that is listed for that item "must be a mistake". The customer service person I spoke with was very rude and referred me to their disclaimer when I pressured them on the advertised price.

I will not be shopping with Outpost anytime soon.

The price they want to charge after $120 rebate (which you may never get) is $189. No enough of a difference from the $192 price at Newegg for an OEM.

My click citi card is pretty good, and the limit is 3 grand for a year compared to Amex's 1.
However, I think they'll get rid of this card, since they don't offer it any more and mine will be expired coming Nov.
Damn, good stuff don't last long.

Do you have the phone number or link to Citi Click's Best Value Guarantee?
I called their customer service but the CSR didn't know what I was talking about... another CSR told me that
they no longer have that BVG program. I had the Citi card for over a year but never filed a claim w/ them.
I saw their on-line claim form when I first signed up for the card but it seems that they have removed it.

Based on Destro's experience above, I called ready to fight with Outpost, but when I mentioned to the CSR what I was calling about, she just said I would have to order the drive from her over the phone to get the lower price. She was very nice and advised me that they were out of stock, but that they would have some more next week and they would keep the order date as the sale date for the rebate.

BTW, this is a full retail offering, not an OEM.

not to change the subject (from the ongoing debate about CC pricematch policy), but regarding the drive itself, the straight price from Outpost is $170 AR, right? That's still a good price for the retail version of this drive, right???

is there a 'faster' IDE drive out there? Would this be the best IDE drive for video editing, or is there better? thanks so much.

ok one more question from me... if I'd like to buy 2 of these at this price (with BVG & rebate), can I buy both drives on one order, then use 2 different names/addresses for the rebate forms (ie, a friend or family member as the 2nd rebate)? Does it matter that they both have the same receipt/name on receipt?

thanks

Do you have the phone number or link to Citi Click's Best Value Guarantee?

How can I apply for a price protection?

Citibank: To use our Price Protection benefit, please call Citicorp Insurance Services at 800-377-7200. They are open M-F, 6 a.m. - 7 p.m., CT.

Just call the number and wait for a CSR pick it up, and say you want to apply for a price protection.
Before you call, prepare all the info ready.
The order comfirmation and you better have the web site you want to match on screen, also.
They will send a form out for you to fill it out and send it back.

I thought that Amex's BVG specifically didn't apply to purchases that had an active rebate?

ANybody want to help me to get one or two??

Hey, you got one already, why you want another one.
You won't put it on your baby, unless you got ATA133 card, or ATA133 enabled board.

Got a question about BVG on AMEX. I bought 2 WD1200JB drives from Dell. I paid $187 for the 3 yr WD warranteed drive and $125 for the 1 yr Dell warranteed drive. Obviously, with the coupons and everything there isn't a published price, but I'm wondering if you submitted a receipt for the same drive at the two different prices. Would AMEX BVG give you the price difference? They are both OEM drives. It's just that the one has the Dell warrantee and the other, the WD warrantee.

TIA,

Sal

bluesky, thanks for the info.

Now that Amex BVG is gone I'm going to cancel my Blue and give Citi Click card a try.

Right. Right. No. Probably yes, probably not.

Your welcome.

Seriously though, Storage Review ranks this as fast as any 10,000rpm drive except the Atlas 10k III. 170 bucks is a good price. Newegg has the bare drive for $196. This is the retail version and its selling for less than that! I don't do video editing, but I can't imagine an IDE drive being faster.
