Today's Houston ad listing the WD SE 160GB drive for $89.99 after a $70 rebate(s) ($20 and $50 you get from Fry's). Not a bad deal.

Edit, there's seems to be one $20 rebate two $50 rebates for the Fry's WD 160 SE. I haven't seen both the $50s so I can't say, but you could be saving another $30 or $50, depending on what the rebate forms require. Obviously if the $50 rebate from the store is exactly the same as this .pdf, you most likely won't be able to get two of them redemed. The pdf that someone linked below seems to be good with either UPC or capacity label, so you could probably use it and at least one of the register receipts. If someone that's gotten the rebate printouts could tell us what they require AND where they are mailed to, that would be great.

Edit, Okay, I checked the $50 at my local Fry's. No good. The two $50 rebates are actually one and the same. Nice try, but you can't use it twice on the same drive. If you do try using the capacity label for one and UPC for the other, you might end up with neither.

Also listed for this ad period:
2200+ and ECS MB $84.99 (up $5)
2000+ and ECS MB $69.99

Just checked LA's ad and the same thing is good here. Also, there is another rebate for $50 out there that is still good.

Link

So thats...

$159.99 - 70.00 - 50.00 = $39.99 !!!!

If you ask me this could be the deal of the month...

Should work, unless the instore rebate has some funky limitations.

Have Fun!

Hi MCrusty,

Long time lurker, first time poster...

That's an affirmative on the 160 gigger!
It appears in the Fry's ad on the back page of today's Statesman Sports section.

Am racing down there to get one myself!

Just got back from the Austin store. The $70 rebate is actually a $20 and a $50 combined. I've read over the $50 and I can't see any reason why you can't submit two of them, bringing the price, after tax and rebates, to $73.19 (8.25% tax in Austin). Not quite as good of a deal, but still good enough for me.

wouldn't you need another capacity label for the other manufacturer's rebate? so fry's you send in one (their combined manufacturer's rebate), and the other wd rebate you send in another capacity label, rgiht ? but you only have 1

They give you a Western Digital $50 rebate, which is the same one that's linked above. It says you can send in the UPC *or* capacity label, so I think you'll be ok.

[Edit]
Oh yeah, the drives come with an UltraATA card, sweetens the deal a bit.

$159.99
- $50 MIR (WD Rebate)
- $50 MIR (WD Rebate From Frys)
- $20 MIR (Frys Rebate)??

= $39.99?

No, there are exactly two different rebates. The $50 one, which was handed to me at Fry's and is identical to the one posted above in the link, and a $20 one, which I was also given at Fry's. The $20 is a photocopied sheet of paper, and appears to have the same terms as the $50 sheet. You have two items you can use for rebates, the UPC and the capacity label. The $50 rebate says you can send either, the $20 says it'll only take the capacity. So the $20 is basically pointless, you want to do this:

$159.99
- $50 MIR (UPC)
- $50 MIR (Capacity Label)

= $59.99

Unless someone can look at the rebate linked above and tell me why this wouldn't work?

ooohhhh... I hope the double $50 rebates work. I will drive the 75 miles to the nearest Fry's in a second, if this pans out.

I took the FRY's ad from the L.A. Times to my local Circuit City store and they PM'ed the after rebate price (110%) of the Western Digital 160GB HD, total was $81.90 + taxes out the door and NO! rebates to deal with.

we're still waiting to see if the two $50 rebates are the same or not. Someone? Where does the $50 rebate they give you at Fry's get mailed to?
If the two $50 rebates go to the same place, you won't be getting both, even if you use capacity label for one and UPC for the other.

back of the rebate from outpost (not fry's) -- "Offer is limited to two rebates per customer/name/address."
if the two $50 rebates are exactly the same then it could work. the question would be if the fry's $50 and the oupost $50 say the same thing.

You're limited to 2 per address, but it will still be limited to one per drive. You're only chance would be to attempt to fool them by sending in two $50 requests from different name\addresses for the same drive, and hope they don't check the Fry's transaction #. But that, I beleive, would be fraud. Otherwise, sending from the same address, they'll get your requests, see there are two for the same drive and deny them (both, maybe).

$89.99 is still a good deal for the drive, BTW.

i agree that even without the possibility of the double $50 rebate the $90 deal at fry's is a great deal. but, i see no reason from what i have read (i just went out and bought it) to preclude me from sending in the $50 rebate i received from the purchase and the $50 rebate i printed out from the outpost link.

it might be true that the drive itself has a limit of $50 rebates it can process from the same buyer. in that case it would be fraud to send in two rebates of the same amount. but since in neither the frys transaction rebate receipt nor on the outpost rebate does it explicitly indicate that there is such a limit--e.g. void with any other $50 rebate or not good with any other offer (in fact, it says the opposite)--it is still possible that StarPlatinum is correct.

like you said $90 is a good deal but $60 is better and there is no possibility of fraud.
