Western Digital 30.7GB Hard Drive $69.99 after rebate (or less)

Here is the deal:

Office Depot has a WD 30.7GB Hard Drive on sale for $179.99, minus a $50 instant rebate and a $30 mail-in rebate. Circuit City has the same drive listed for $149.99, minus the same $30 mail-in rebate and a $20 mail-in rebate from Circuit City.

Take the Circuit City add to Office Depot, make them pricematch to $149.99, get the $50 instant rebate, and wait for the $30 mail in rebate to come in. That makes it $99.99 + tax out the door, and $30 to come in later. If your Office Depot is still doing the 155% pricematch deal, which some of them are, then it will be even cheaper. Enjoy!

Which ad are you talking about? The Circuit City in-store flyer, or a newspaper ad? I've noticed that a lot of times CC newspaper ads advertise items which aren't listed in their in-store flyer...which means I'd have to go pick up a paper =P~

Office Depot said they don't PM to Electronics stores, only "competitors" (Other office supply stores). You can argue that "competitor" should be interpreted on a product by product basis, anywhere else I may buy a product I can buy in Office Depot, but this seems to be their policy.

Staples has this drive for $140.99 on their site.

Have you actually done this? I could very easily see the Office Depot manager making the case that their price is $129.99 - $30.00 rebate = $99.99 (since it is) and not allowing the $50 instant rebate off of the price match. If it works, great, but I'm betting a lot of people will not be able to get it. Just an observation -- would be an awesome price if it works!

This is a new deal, we're still working it out. Basically, we've got a product from four vendors, each with its own price:

-Circuit City BM ($149 - $20 CC MIR = $129)
-Staples ($141 shipped)
-Buy.com ($150 + ship)
-Office Depot BM ($179 - $50 Inst. Rebate = $129)

We have a manufacturer rebate of $30 regardless. We have the makings of a good deal..we just have to figure out how to put the pieces together. The formula for a good deal is

(1) find a store with 1, 2 or more rebates, it means their price is artificially high
(2) pm them to a store with a more reasonable price & no rebates
(3) even better if the store has coupons, like Staples
(4) get the low price AND the coupons AND the rebates
=good deal!

It's still early. See the thread on FW for the BEST case scenario.

If we PM staples with Office Depot, get staples for $129, then use $30 off $100 at staples, we're at $99, then $30 MIR = $69. There's more than one way to do this.

funny thing.........

i am in Houston... worked today. one of the first calls i got today was from a guy inquiring abt the WD 30gig HD. wanted to pricematch with CC price with flyer. b4 he mentioned abt price matching, i had a feeling he will ask. he then go on to ask abt the 155% LPG but we no longer do that. and i thot to myself, must be an Anandtecher... hehehehehe.

from what i know, this is OD price match policy.

1) must be EXACT item. well duh, but you wouldnt believe how many ppl i get wanting to price match different items.

2) we must verify the price by calling the competitor, sometimes a valid ad is good enough (depends on managers). the lower price must be the price rang up at the register and not after MAIL-IN REBATES!!! instant rebate will count. for example, a ZIP drive regular priced at 150. instant rebate of 20 and mail-in of 30. OD will only honor 150-20=130. the reason why they dont honor mail-in rebate is because its manufacturer rebate, which u can get no matter where u buy. or, the mail-in rebate is COMPETITOR's rebate... OD will not honor those.

3) item must be in stock at competitor location(s).

so, in regards to this PM deal on the WD 30gig, i dont think it will work because CC is offering an exclusive CC mail-in rebate. when OD has "instant rebate" or "price reduction" they mean its the price of the item in their system. so 179.99 - 50 instant = 129.99 which is less than CC before any mail-in rebate thus no PM is needed. maybe a few ppl are getting confuse with coupon savings. sometimes OD will have coupons that gives you "instant saving," but that is not the case for the WD. if it was, than this PM deal is awesome...

Hope i clear things up.

btw, my store have covered up all signs that had the 155% LPG that way customers cannot say "well, that what u have on your signs." but i know of some store that still have those signs, and if needed, i will go to those stores for 155% LPG.

Just a note to help things along... I noticed in the CC flyer that their PM policy is not a _match_ - they promise to _beat_ competitors prices. Also states they will give a 110% refund on a lower price w/in 30 days of purchase.
