Dang!

2 days ago I ordered a 250GB version of the exact same drive from ZZF for $69.90 & can no longer cancel my order. (Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB Serial ATA II 7200RPM Hard Drive w/16MB Buffer)

This one in the OP is the better buy! ($0.28/GB v. $0.25/GB).

However, the noise of the WD's should be better from what I've heard, so I'm getting a WD for my rig.

they're cooler, too. Seagate's 7200.10 is like 1-2% faster. western digital drives are OVER 1-2 degrees/dB cooler/quieter

That was to me. I know of one other person who got 1 out of the 2 drives he ordered. I ordered two drives and got an empty box. This was back in late November 2006 and the drives in question were Maxtor 300GB that were on sale at Outpost.com/Frys.com. If anyone else were shorted drives, I don't know about it.

I attempted to resolve issue with Frys.com over a one week period with numerous phone calls (mostly ending up being disconnected - see ResellerRatings for hundreds of these disconnection complaints and plummetting ratings). Was promised a callback which never happened. Email correspondence replied "we see that your issue has been resolved."

Did a complaint through my credit card company, which contacted them in writing to try to resolve this. Credit card company ended up doing a chargeback because Fry's never tried to resolve it.

Filed a complaint with the BBB. So far Fry's has not replied to the BBB but they did send me a letter (return receipt) stating that they need payment for my chargeback or else they will continue on collection activities against me.

Did they eliminate the free shipping on this? I'm not seeing it.

Thanks of the input, thats enough for me to steer clear of outpost forever.

Note that all my previous orders had been fine. In the 12 month period before this happened, I had placed and successfully received 19 orders totaling around $3600 with Outpost.com/Frys.com. The successful orders had cheap products, cheap shipping and I usually received stuff 2 days after ordering (using cheapest or free shipping).

It's only when something goes wrong and you need customer service, when you find out there is none.

Outpost.com used to advertise on their home page that they had the best customer service in the industry. Guess what? No longer.

Note that Outpost.com no longer claims that they are "#1 rated customer service," and for good reason.

I do not believe that it is their intention to defraud their customers. Indeed I think most people have good experiences with their good prices and quick shipping. If only customer service actually existed...

That literally happened within the last few minutes. I clicked on the link with a drive priced at $99. Between the time I saw that and clicked Add to Cart a few seconds later, the price increased and free shipping went away.

This one (KS) is using the older KS platform and that could be a good thing.

Has anyone who has received the drive confirm its a bare drive (and thus a 3 year warranty?)

I have had positive experiences with them in the past, but considering the wealth of other options I can trust at similiar prices, why take the chance?

Is the RE2 400GB drive comparable to the AAKS 400GB? This drive went out of stock, but I found the RE2 for the same price elsewhere.

AFAIK, the RE2 should be comparable or better and have a 5 year warranty.

Did you have to register the drive for the three years?
