Western Digital Drives + Raid 0

I am shopping around for new h/d to use in a Raid 0 array
I came across some Western Digital RAID edition Serial ATA hard drives (WD1600SD)

When looking at the specs, on the site, I came across this

" Benefits...
RAID-specific time limited error recovery ? improves compatibility with RAID adapters and prevents drive fallout caused by extended drive error-recovery processes..."

But, lower down, i saw this...

"IMPORTANT: Because of the time-limited error recovery feature, this product is intended for server applications and is not recommended for use in desktop systems"

Does anyone have any idea what this means, and why I shouldn't use it in a desktop system, which is what i was planning???

any help would be appreciated!

My WAG is that it means if the drive goes south on you, you've only got a limited amount of time to get it fixed before it's perma-screwed.

I mean, it's not like the drives have to be specially designed for RAID; as long as you've got a RAID controller on your computer, you're fine.

Just get some other hard drives. I don't really see this as being that big of a deal.

Because it's not for performance and not for the desk top. They where made for people who own servers or databases when back-up /error recovery and redundancy are most important to them.

What will you be doing on your RAID array? If you aren't doing any hardcore video/audio editing, then performance gains will be negligible.

yes, i would be doing some audio and video editing
as well as some vmware stuff, and i do want an all around quick machine

as for what Regs said, I am not convinced,
What is different about this h/d, compared to other WD SATA drives?
it has the same features as a 'regular drive' but with a greater MTBF
Same spindle speed, cache etc....

So what about this drive and the "RAID-specific time limited error recovery " makes it unsuitable for desktop systems??
and why?
