I've wanted one of these since they came out, but I'm still too cheap to pull the trigger. But I believe this is the cheapest these have been, yet.

274.99 - 40 (Rebate) + 5.46 (Shipping) = 240.45

This is my first AT Hot Deal in forever, please be gentle.

Save your money and buy the newer updated 36 gig or 74 gig model. Run the OS and apps on it and get a cheap 7200RPM drive for storage.

I usually go by StorageReview.com, but I'm not sure how old the revision is that they've tested here.

From that, which admittedly is most likely for an older revision of the 74GB, it appears that the 150GB wins in most of the Single-User Suite (games/apps) that would be most beneficial to me. I wouldn't be using it as a File Server, so the losses there wouldn't affect me, personally.

My OS drive now is a 300GB WD 7200rpm drive which is roughly half full and I have a 320GB storage drive which is 80% full. I'm sure I could trim some of my OS drive capacity down, but it might be a tight fit.

But if you have a review of the new 74GB Raptor revision, I'd love to read it. Thanks.

The new 74gb is equivelent to the 150gb one in terms of sata 2.0, native command queuing and whatnot I believe, so it should perform similarly. Last I checked it was hard to find in the US.

Is this referencing the new model that people are talking about?

If so, what I'd be most excited about is the new 16MB of cache. I wish they had reviews along with it, though. It does have NCQ, but I've read where that actually hurts performance.

Also, it says that "However, both drives still carry a SATA 1.5Gbps throughput rating." so this isn't actually SATA II, correct? Not that it really matters, I'm sure none of them use the 3.0Gbps.

Anyone have a review/benchmark, per chance?

There is some debate on the new 74gb 8mb and 16mb cache being now a single 74gb platter. The model codes have changes on both

That's a pretty good price. (I have 6 coming in soon - hopefully - that I could beat that price with, but not by much.)

My thoughts about the 74GB / 150GB debate....... If you want RAID 0 or want to install just OS on 1 drive and use another for storage buy the 74GB model. If you want to use 1 drive for almost everything buy the 150GB model. I have one computer with 2 of the 74's in RAID 0 and no other drives except an external drive. I use that one for FS9 and CFS2. The computer I'm on now that I use for almost everything else has a 150GB Raptor for C drive and a 160GB 7200 RPM drive for extra storage.
