The large sticker on the brown box contains a Serial #, a SKU # and a Part #.
The rebate certificate mandates an 'Original UPC Code from the product package' I ordered 2 of the drives to raid them. Identical except for the serial #. Buy.com remains unreachable. If you want to take the chance of sending the large sticker, waiting 10+ weeks only to receive a postcard stating that you didn't meet the rebate requirements, I can only wish you luck. Nothing would please me more than a supplemental posting that rebates were received. Nothing would surprise me more, either.

I got my $200 from the Dell/WD deal they originally stated they wouldn't honor!

I do realize the UPC/SKU number for OEM drive could be different. WD does not honor the warranty for OEM drive(s)--I doubt it will honor the rebate for the OEM raptor

Edit: this appears to be Buy.com rebate. It explicitly says "Purchase a Western Digital® Raptor 74GB Hard Drive (Item #CKU9V5) and receive an EXCLUSIVE $40 rebate by mail from Buy.com!". So unless your SKU label says something other than "CKU9V5" yould be OK.

SKU = stock keeping unit used by retailer for counting and keeping track of inventory. not all sku's for the same product will be the same for different retailers

UPC = universal product code Is given to product from the manufacturer and will be the same for the product no matter whos retailing it

Used to work at best buy, and they were not the same, at least at BB....in fact it was exactly as erbosch said. As far as I know SKUs are unique to specific retailers.

SKU is a number retailers put on an item for their own inventory purpose. It has nothing to do with UPC. UPC comes from manufacturers, and SKU is from retailers. I don't know where you got the idea SKU is UPC.

You guys are over thinking this, it is a buy.com rebate, so just save the page for the WD Raptor HD drive on Buy.com, save a copy of the rebate for and a copy of the whatever UPC/SKU there is on the package. If they kick it back just complain, they listed it, you can only give them the SKU if it is an OEM drive?

I have had good luck with Buy.com and rebates, I had a problem a couple of years ago with an NEC CRT rebate, they credited my account.
