So when you take newest-latest 7200.10 Seagates and RAID them, what are we talking about as far as comparisons of 3Gb/sec SATA Seagates to these Raptors please?

The individual reviews here and storeagereview show the Raptor is faster. Most of what I've read say that the performance enhancement of RAID - say RAID 0 is either negligible or only measurable in a handful of benchmarks and not in real world use. It would be safe to conclude that the Raptor is faster than the Seagate 7200.10.

One caution, though, is that you can hear the Raptor, especially in this clear case. I have one, and it's quite fast...it got quieter with age though. Oh, my very first one died right after getting Vista installed, did in-store exchange with no problem.

Oh and that reminds me guys and gals, as I've cautioned in other threads. Bestbuy.com is a 'no exchange' policy site. You may think 'that's no problem, I know I want this thing at this price.' Here's the problem - buy it at this price, it goes belly up in 4 days (as mine did) and the sale is off. No exchange means that you get a refund and re-buy the drive at the non-sale price. Or you go through an inordinate amount of hassle and hope that the in-store manager will fill out manual paperwork to reduce the price.

I would suggest that to be safe, just get the store to match the .com price and run the purchase totally through the store.
