Serial ATA is not going to make the drive any faster than any other, it will just make the cables smaller and you could always get a card and a serial ATA drive later if you wanted to wait, but why wait. The WD JB is a great drive, I have a 120gig and I like it.
I've got an IBM 75GXP inside a firewire case still running strong! Scares the hell out of me, though. I've used to it edit video, and I was getting close to finishing a HUGE project a few weeks ago. Lets just say that I was sweating bullets and praying that it wasn't going to die in the last few hours before I mastered to DVD. Thankfully it came through. But I don't trust that drive at all. I have got to figure out a sensible backup strategy.
I've had a 75GXP going strong for the past 2 years and I don't worry about it. The thing is that if it's working pretty well that long, then it should continue. I don't use it as much as many people might but my friend also has one (we both have the 45Gig drive, or more specifically the 46.1gig drive) and he uses his alot and it's still working great.
