What's your question?

I thought I laid that out pretty clearly.

It boils down what you really want. If you want performance, get the WD Black

I mentioned the issue is noticble performance, to distinguish it from the benchmarks that may or may not be noticable for gaming.

Yes, the black is benchmark faster than the green. How noticable is it in gaming? Also the Samsung has twice the throughput and slightly slower I/O. What's noticable between them?

If you want storage, get the 2TB green.

Obviously the 2TB is 2TB compared to the 1TB drives. That's a 'nice to have' but I'm asking about other things - noticable quiet, noticable speed.

If you're using the drive as primarily a storage drive, you're not going to notice any performance issues.

But I said I'm using it for gaming, not storage, primarily.

I thought I laid the question out and address these things.

I'm picking between 1TB Samsung, 1TB Caviar black, and this drive for a slave gaming drive paire with an OS SSD. I like the quiet of this diive - IF performance won't be noticed.

go ask in the "memory and storage" forum... this is the hot deals forum and not a place to discuss your question.

I thought I laid that out pretty clearly.

Not to be a dick... you didn't really lay anything out clearly.

I'm picking between 1TB Samsung, 1TB Caviar black, and this drive for a slave gaming drive paire with an OS SSD. I like the quiet of this diive - IF performance won't be noticed.

You said you're picking out between three drives...

2 7200rpm 1tb drives, and 5400rpm 2tb drive.

I already said it... if you want performance, go with WD Black. However, the WD green 2tb is no slouch in performance with its 500gb platters.

As far as gaming performance, we're only talking about load times here, and while I'm too lazy to look up benchmarks, we're talking about differences of a couple seconds at the most in load times (if that). So, if your question is whether or not you'll see a noticeable difference between the 1tb black and the 2tb green... probably not. Apparently, you're not planning to use a new drive as a boot drive, so it doesn't really matter either way. So your main consideration should be price and how much storage you really want.

If you want to squeeze every last little bit of loading time without going to an SSD, go get the WD black.

Wow... that's annoying. After all this time I waited and waited for a deal on a 2TB drive. I finally pulled the trigger elsewhere when this drive hit $140 (everywhere else was selling them for $160). Now, a few weeks later, there's a ton of different deals on this drive.

I'm not too bummed though, as I'll probably be buying a second one though.

Back down to 135 - 15 MIR. There's a new rebate now. So it looks like people who got one before can submit this new one.

oops, hitachi already in hot deals.

Btw, this drive (wd20ears) is not sata3. It's 3gb/s (sata2)
