I know ignorance isn't a defence, I just wasn't sure if the item was still considered stolen goods in such a case.

Theft requires intent.
Recieving of stolen goods does not.

Well I got in contact with Amazon, they said the gift certificate is good and I can use it..
So I guess I'll be sending the money with western union.

I always use Western Union to send money back to Philippines.

Moral of the story: Don't trust anyone outside of the United States for anything.

If they have a good, long ebay feedback history and you have verified the GC or whatever ahead of time, id say you are ok. WU is normally used by scammers when you pay first or theres a fake email saying your money is on the way and you can send them your goods. If the seller had shady feedback i would avoid the deal though.

Yea the seller has a 99.3% positive feedback with 626 positive and 4 negative since 1999. And again, the seller has shipped first so i think I'm fine since Amazon gave me the thumbs up.

All Amazon can do is verify that the purchase went through for the gift card. They can't guarantee that the purchase won't be disputed later on.
