Tomarrow Bestbuy is selling the Westinghouse 32" LCD, hdtv for $999.00 after $300.00 instant saving. It isn't as hot as the crutchfield,BF deal awhile back, But $999.00 doesn't seem to bad.

Costco B&M has a Proview 32" LCD for $950. Has anyone compared image quality on either of these?

I picked one up last week. The tag had it for $999.99 but I explained to a floor manager that I had heard of a 10% off mail coupon was floating around, but that I was not recieving any Best Buy mail as I live about 200 miles away from one. He let me have 10% of so I got it for $900.00 plus tax. This was in Pecan Park in Austin, TX. I got a little bit of Quake 4 action going on it and was impressed. Can't wait to use it with my new Aspire X Q-pack system tonight. I will post pics if anybody is interested.

Any reports on this model?

I would rather have a DLP projection (who wouldn't) but this might be nice as I already have a Samsung tuner sitting in a box...

I picked this up for $850 shipped at Crutchfield on Black Friday. Really nice LCD. The picture on DVDs with component video is sweet, and the S-video SD picture from DirecTV is excellent to decent, depending on the programming. I don't have a HD source to check iout the DVI, but I'll let you know how it looks when I get my HTPC together. I had to reduce the backlighting in the menu to get the blacks black.

I picked this one up right before BF. I am very pleased with PQ and performance. I must say I paid less than the current deal, but trust me people over at avs are raving this set especially for it's price. BB probably won't lower any more than $999. Before I tried this set I had the Proview from Costco, it was a totaly nightmare with my htpc. Sharp Aquos is very good also. The only thing I would complain is the black level and the cheap remote, but who doesn't use a universal remote like Harmony these days? Especially if you are like me having a receiver, dvd player, and htpc. Less remotes on the table is good.

ps. I went to 3 BestBuys before I found one in stock. It was sold out before 2pm of the second day. Just FYI. Let me restate that this deal is worse than the last one, but I highly doubt they'll go any lower.

I bought the ProView from Costco over the summer and wasn't happy with it. When I returned it (in November), the electronics manager asked me "What took me so long?". He said that many, many of the ProViews were returned because of very poor PQ.

Currently, I don't have an HD signal, and cannot get any HD content into my house. 90% of the time I watch SD broadcasts (over DISH Network), and 10% of the time, I watch DVDs from a Progressive Scan (480p) DVD player.

In these conditions, the Westinghouse is great. It is nowhere as good as a CRT TV would be, but I needed a BIG screen that I could hang from the wall...a CRT is not an option.

The ProView was ALWAYS blurry (especially when watching SD), to the point where I couldn't even read the Program Guide, or any text that was displayed on the screen. Even watching DVDs didn't look great - it was passable, but even with my low set of requirements, I expected more.

The Westy works very well for SD broadcasts (as good or better than any Panny, Sony, Sharp or Philips that I looked at), and DVDs look amazing. The only negative that I have is that you can only partially use a Universal Remote with this TV. If you tell a Universal Remote that the TV is a Sony, it will power on/off, control channels and volume. If you want to use any of the other controls, you will need the original esty remote.

BTW, I bought mine at BB, open box, for $899 - 15% coupon that was floating around a few months ago + 4yr warranty for a total of ~$950 including tax!

Good Luck.

Hows the squeeze on these? I mean when watching SD broadcast does it look severely stretched and weird? If anyone can take some pics of a 4:3 show running in widescreen I would REALLY appreciate it. If not, thanks anyway.

I picked one of these up at BB the week of BF for $899 plus I had the 12% off coupon. This is a nice TV it is too bad that it does not have a built in HD tuner. Here is some more Info on it.

There are 3 "modes" to watch an SD broadcast (or any broadcast, for that matter): Normal, fill and zoom.

Normal puts black bars on the sides, so you end watching a 4:3 display of about 27-28". This is how I watch SD and it works for me. Some may not like the black bars, but you get a full, true SD signal. There is no "squeeze" at all.

Fill fills the entire screen by stretching the picture. You get a bunch o' squeeze here. Everything looks short and fat. Not watchable in my opinion, but to each his own.

Zoom zooms in on the picture until it fills the screen. As a result, the top and bottom of the picture are "cut off". My parents like this mode, but it bugs me too. On the bottom, it cuts off about 3/4 of the "logo" that is usually in the bottom right corner. Again, no "squeeze" here.

Hope this helps.

Actually I believe 4:3 on a 32" WS of this type will be about 26" so if you currently have a 27" CRT this 32" will be a step down in image size on 4:3 sources, unless you like it stretched, but usually the only people I have seen that like it stretched were really old or just couldn't figure out how to get it set up right..

i missed the sale at Crutchfields on Black Friday and waited too long until it was out of stock at J&R for $899 the same weekend. Unlike Crutchfields, J&R showed it as OOS, but you could still backorder it at the sale price - so I did. The next day the price was back up to $1299, but my order was still "processing" at the sale price.

Lo and behold it shipped last week and should be here tomorrow. I commend J&R for honoring the price on an out of stock item. They have been very friendly and extremely helpful during the whole process. Can't wait to get this set up!

Lot's of discussion over at AVS forums about this.
32" Westinghouse thread at AVS

You can probably get all your questions answered in that thread. General concensus is that this is a good monitor for the price. Image quaility is good and it seems to be the best "budget" 32" screen available.

Got mine this afternoon and without doing any tweaking, I must say this tv rocks out of the box.

Got it temporarily hooked up to my regular cable box with S-Video - picking up an HD STB from Time Warner tomorrow -, Oppo upconverting DVD player with DVI and my PC (w/ Radeon X800XL) with VGA input.

In my opinion, this set is much better than the 32" Syntax LCD that I purchased several months ago. I highly recommend it.

You might also want to check out the Syntax Olevia at buydig.com or beach camera.com. right now you can grab the 32" model for $839 shipped (no tax) after $300 rebate. Granted, that's a lot of rebate to wait for, but the final price is nice.

Check pricegrabber for more options. I think the 37" HVS model with HDTV Tuner built in is $1250 AR.

I have to say that the Westy has much better PQ than the Syntax. Even the Protron from Sears has better PQ then Syntax. Whatever you buy don't get the Proview though. Syntax Olevia's PQ is livable, but Westy's LTV-32W1 blows away all other budget LCDs and some high ends.

Does anyone work at Best Buy? If you could please find out what the employee cost would be for this set, and other similar TVs? Thanks.
