This is a good deal as well
VIZIO VU42LF LCD HDTV

Reminder that this sale ends Sunday June 10. If it had a HD tuner it'd be so much more tempting. I might pop for the 42" Vizio when it's on sale June 25 - July 1. Looks like it's in store so I could get it same day and with no shipping charges. Jassi is that $999 the MSRP or Costco's after $200 off sale price?

According to people over at AVS Forum, my information in the previous post is wrong. Vizio will have a 42" 1080P out in a couple of weeks for a MSRP of 1199. Costco is expected to take $200 off that. This much has been confirmed. HOWEVER there was a slight confusion with model numbers (Vizio decided to bring out 2 42" 1080p models!). The one I mentioned will not have a new processor (or 120Hz refresh rate and 4 HDMI). The premium model will and it will come out later in the summer for more money. I think its going to be $1499 MSRP. It will not be available at Costco.

Having said all that, I am tempted by the Westy but a my wallet is asking me to wait until I pay off my student loans

Edit - You can check out the page for the most likely Costco sale candidate here. Notice how it says 1080i for PC input!! Which makes me think that you need HDMI capable video card to use it as a monitor (I think it does have a tuner though). Since Costco B&M will be selling it too, it might be worth it to check it out in person at the store and maybe waiting until the folks at AVS Forums give it a thorough check.

Good luck with whatever you choose

If you check out the other tv's at costco.com, you will see a Magnavox 42" 1080p set that is gearing up to be sold at $999 July 9th-15th. This may warrant its own thread, but here's the link...

Interesting that after the online coupon expired, today's the price has been permanently reduced to $799 instead of being raised back up to $999....

Anyone else order around 6/6? Has it shipped yet for you? Judging by posts here I can hope for later this week at best.

I ordered on 6-8-06 called monday and was told 2-3 weeks for shipping. There is no expedited shipping any longer offered. So I believe inventory was affected by this sale. That is why I think the price is set at $799.00 again - as they have none in stock and are willing to take more orders. So look for another 2-3 weeks for your westy to ship. LaMe on Costcos part!

I ordered on 6/4, and it shipped on 6/8. They sat on it the whole week. It will be delivered Thursday, 6/15.

When they say 7-10 business days, they mean 7-10 business days.

Sweet, mine shipped last night (6/12) and is scheduled to arrive Monday 6/18 (12 days, 8 bus days from my order). Not bad. CherryBOMB, hopefully yours will arrive in the 7-10 frame instead of the 2-3 weeks timeframe. Is it possible that the estimates they gave when you ordered are accurate? I.e. Will they take 2-3 weeks for those who ordered after their site changed to reflect this delivery time? It is a sad statement that I'm surprised when a website gets this right, it is so simple.

Dont forget to use DVI-D (dual link) cables (24+1 pin variety)

Dual DVI is not required for resolutions up to and including 1920x1200

Yeah, all I have is a DVI-D 18pin single linkcable from my Dell and it works fine with that. I was reading up on DVI and all the dual and single stuff ahead of time though to make sure it would work. I wanted to be able to try it out with the pc right away.

Having some trouble hooking it up. I have a DVI-D dual-link cable, but I don't think my x1900xtx supports that output because I got no signal on the monitor. VGA works, but it's naturally god-awful.

I wonder why I couldn't get it to work? I set the computer to 1920x1080 @ 60hz prior to plugging it in. Do I need to reboot the system and/or reset the monitor after plugging in? I suppose mayeb my DVI-D cable is bad. I have no other devices in the house that use it, so I can't test it.

I'll play around with it more in a little bit.

Are you sure that cable is DVI-D dual link? monoprice.com shows that DVI-D single link cables only support 1600x1200 rez.

I'm 100% sure it's dual-link DVI-D (3 rows of 8 pins each, and just the single horizontal flat pin without the 4 pins around it).

And, from everything I've read, DVI-I should also support 1920x1080. But I don't have a DVI-I cable to test anyway.

:edit-- nevermind. got it. rebooted, etc. and now all is good. Looks amazing. I predict my x1900xtx choking at this res on some games.

woot shipped.
ordered 6/9 shipped 6/14

If you guys are on the fence, dont forget the coscto return poilcy. Yeah its not lifetime anymore, but 90days is still a long ass time.
If any better deals come up, returning to costco is a no hassle ordeal. I returned my 24in monitor so i can get this, and was no problem returning it at their store.

since costco offers an extension on the warranty for 2 years, will the warranty go to 3 years when using the blue amex card since the card is suppose to double the manufacturer's warranty. are the years stackable?

highly doubtful...Since both just offer an extension from the end of the manufacturer's warranty...

I got mine about a week ago, no problems or dead pixels. After my 19 inch it's huge. However I'm having a fricken hard time finding settings I like for it. Either things look to dark to see or too bright and washed out. Maybe it's the 1000:1 contrast thats to blame, dunno. Any advice?

Everybody's room and lighting differ, but I used AVIA to lock in some settings that seem to work for me:

Brightness: 48
Contrast: 40
Saturation: 57
Hue: 0
Color Temp: Neutral
Sharpness: 50
Backlight: 20

That seems to get the best picture and color for my eyes and room. This room goes from bright as the sun for part of the day to completely dark at night, so it's a toughie.

As for pics, I have a few, but, honestly, they don't do this thing justice. Maybe it's my crappy digital cam. Either way, I find myself with a dilemma. Before I received it, I fully planned on having my dad buy it off me for what I paid. I'd rather use that $950 on a full system upgrade in Sept/Oct. But, after hooking it all up to test out for him, my wife and I find ourselves trying to justify keeping it. Heck, I don't *need* it... I have a Mitsu 22" CRT that's working perfect (for the moment).
