i love seeing people who have no clue about the bang for the buck of these TV's dog westinghouse.
you butt monkeys should go back to your 27" tubes and pray that someday the HD gods allow you the pleasure of owning a TV with as much bang for your buck.

i own a 32" westinghouse and a 27" Olevia and the Westinghouse forgetting that its bigger is a much better TV and PC Monitor.

not everyone sees the friggin retardedness of paying 2 times as much for a tv just cuz it carries the sony name or Pioneer or something.

Just don't try returning this TV to BestBuy after 30 days... Or if it goes bad in 6 months...

Thats why you buy from costco.

Actually I don't see too many people "dogging" Westinghouse in this thread. My hesitation on this TV has primarily to do with the contrast ratio. Some people care more about overall quality when buying a tv they plan on owning for a long time and not just tossing in 1 or 2 years to get something "better". I have no problem with the Westinghouse - they are a reputable brand and I don't consider any less of them than any of the other big brands. My main concern is the contrast/color... which would be a concern even with other Sony/Samsung/etc... models. But I guess you feel the need to express your opinion.

I still would really like some comparison between this and the higher contrast models with the service menu for this tweaked out. I would like to see if the contrast number is just that a number, or if it is the actual contrast, as it seemed when I was looking. Of course they could have set the Samsung's service settings to optimal and the Westinghouse's to much worse if they wanted to push the sale on the more expensive models. I would really appreciate some constructive insight in this besides "shut up and go back to your tube tv's" or "this is a much better bang for the buck".

I KNOW this is an EXCELLENT, HOT deal, but that was not my question. I am more concerned with color, but if there is little difference, obviously I will go for the blazing deal.

- NO DISCRETE remote codes. Anyone own a universal remote and use macros to control your system? Forget about it. You can't tell it anything but toggle on/off and it toggles through DVI1, DVI2, HDMI so you can't choose your source twice in a row without it switching to the wrong source.
- Terrible remote; trust me, you'll want to use a universal remote (irony?)

Is this true, will this TV not work with a universal remote?

It uses Sony remote codes and I have mapped everything to my programmable remote anyhow.

Seriously... while I don't agree with the hostility of this thread, and I normally would never comment on this, if you're going to attack someone for being dumb, use the proper English to do so.

Your right. If you compare monitors side by side, watching the same thing, you will see. Its the dark colors that monitors have problem displaying. I use a FujiPlus monitor, the 19inch one that came out long ago, and a lot of people on anandtech jumped on it. I thought it displayed color fine and when comparing it to many of my friend's LCDs i swear they were the same. Not true when i bought my laptop. The toshiba being much superior, cannot even be compared to my desktop lcd. Only when i bring my laptop to my friend's house and see that their monitors are just as good as my toshiba's do i realize that monitors need to be compared side by side. You cannot go to a store and remember what yours look like. Light colorsare displayed fine on any LCD. Its the darks that get you. I tried going on youtube and seeing vids that are really dark on my LCD and then my laptop, huge difference. Adjusting options can only go so far, cheap monitors display a smaller spectrum of colors.

I find it hard to believe ...
I successfully programed my Comcast remote & my MCE keyboard & remote to work with this LCD.

Actually it's not hating. Some people may genuinly be interested in a comparison of this versus slightly more expensive 1080p models (namely if there's a difference). While it's good to know you've had a positive experience with your Westinghouse, self-admittedly you haven't done or seen a good comparison of these, so why would you make that claim? If you're having your parents buy you things that's great, but some are considering buying this with their own money.

You need to learn to read. I said I didn't have my parents to buy me those nice & shiny Samsung or Sony 1080p LCD. But, if you check the proper forum (avsforum), you'll see that a lot of people actually bought & return the Sony and kept the Westy.
I bought my LCD with my hard-earned money.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fanboy, I'm just thrilled about this cheap LCD. I hope others would be able to experience the same feeling. Does it have things I don't like, sure it does! Do I think I'd be happier if I had spend an extra $1K-$2K to get the Sony/Samsung, I doubt it! That $2K is being spend to get an SVS-01 speaker + Yamaha v2600!
