I think that if you have a relatively complicated storyline, and then you make it even more complicated and convoluted by mixing up timelines, it doesn't make for a show that is enjoyable to watch.

it was just the distant future. bots testing other bots like dolores testing bernard. i'll definitey watch for dolores vs. bernard. i really don't give a crap about the hosts that were beamed to the valley beyond in their own eden.

i enjoyed the dolores 'kill all humans' abernathy/bernard and william/emily storylines, the maeve/shogun/daughter/akecheta story took a significant chunk of time and went nowhere

They need to tighten up the plot for season 3. Too many side adventures, distractions, and characters in season 2 IMO.

Season 3 kinda looking like the Machine (Bernard) vs. Samaritan (Dolores) face off from Person of Interest.

Both sides will be looking to expand their forces for the conflict to come so some new people and some old will be there. Kind of impossible not to bring Maeve back and I presume she'll come down on Bernard's side. Won't be much of a world to explore if Dolores burns everything down and she may not entirely share the pessimism of Dolores and The Forge AI.

I figure it was for the hosts who were all too innocent since teddy went there, a place for them to be safe and live the life they always thought they were promised.

1. They've been rescuing/taking hosts and humans from around the park. Mostly ones who weren't 'woke' I think.

Real William couldn't make it to the Forge because he was just human in the end. New far future Host William proved he was a faithful but better version of William by continuing into the Forge anyway. Also I like that MIB can now be the HIB.

After watching it on Sunday and reading reviews online, I don't get the whole confusion everyone is having. I have a lot of questions but I understand the general "time line" that's presented. Now the after-credits sorta threw a wrench into the time line but I'm okay with that since it was left as a cliff hanger.

Yeah I think some people's expectations were so different from what happened that it messed with their understanding of the timelines.
The only part I had major issues with was

Dolores and William meeting up again. Seemed anticlimactic. I get they both recognize and even respect each other a little, but I expected more.

And what was unexpectedly emotional

The shot of Ake meeting his wife again after nearly getting shot. I was just so happy for him honestly. That and the shot of Teddy in Eden was really nice to see.

Thing is I don't think any of them are specifically confirmed except Abernathy. Bernard could've technically been made straight from Dolores' memories like last time. And I'm not sure even the show knows, they might want to leave their options open for s3.
