The Westinghouse L2410NM is a display I've been looking at recently because it's available at my local retailer (BestBuy) here in Canada.

Boxing day is going to bring this badboy with a pricetag of $329CAD.

Irresistible?

http://www.westinghousedigital...tails.aspx?itemnum=105

I'm currently on an E228WFP 22'' TN panel.

Will ghosting shock me? Do people exaggerate?
Big change in color reproduction?
HDMI-to-DVI (offers no DVI port) will not decrease the production of signal/colors will it?
1:1 pixel mapping, or no? IE - Black borders for XBOX360/PS3?

Just wanted to clear some stuff up from the pros here at Anandtech.

Might buy 2.

It has been confirmed by Westinghouse, and their website to be an MVA panel I believe. They said that the box and its contents (manual ect) were printed before they had decided on the MVA panel. In another thread, a Westy representative said that all the website specs are correct - and it clearly states its an MVA panel. Wanted some confirmation though. It sure as hell looks like one. Based on the color quality I've been... there's no way it's TN.

I've been posting in that HardForum thread, and read the thread, haha.

Caveat Emptor model? Eh?

Btw, I don't think ExtremeTech was being fair comparing it to $600+ 24'' monitors nor did they have it calibrated it seems, like discussed in the Hardforum thread.

What's the Caveat Emptor model though? I'm lost on that.

Just means "buyer beware" in Latin. Coming from a 22" TN the (inverse) ghosting that seems pretty common on 24" panels may bother you for a bit, but its not a show-stopper imo. Just depends how it exhibits itself and how often I guess. For me the higher res and larger screen was worth it, along with better colors/viewing angles etc. over a 22".

Yeah, I think more often than not the ghosting that people complain about it an exaggeration. But who knows.

Price seems right though and the increased resolution is definitely something I've been wanting for a while now.

Sounds like a great deal to me. I have the Soyo 24" LCD, and sure you can nit-pick small details, but overall its a great display for the money. If the Westinghouse is anything like it, then you won't have any trouble with ghosting, and once the colors are easily adjusted it will look great.

Yeah, I think I'm sold on it.

The only thing I hate is the power on button is on the side. Meaning dual-display is going to require moving one to turn it in.

Anyone know some kind of remote type device I could buy to avert such a situation?

$330 for a 24" MVA?

Sold.

I'll take the worst 24" *VA over the best 24" TN everyday, anyday.

Yeah, it's a sweet deal methinks.

Anyone any comments on the remote idea since the buttons are on the side?

There's a few ways to do this but can lead to additional hassles when you want to power them back on. You can plug them into a cable TV box (like HDTV works well if you use one as an HDTV) or your receiver and then power them on/off with the respective remotes. Alternatively you can look for a remote controlled power strip or UPS? I'm not aware of any on-hand but I'm sure there's something like that out there. Otherwise maybe buy yourself a few "Clappers"? lol. The problem/annoying thing is when they power on, they may not default to DVI/Analog. My Gateway doesn't coming from a cold-boot, but it goes to DVI default when coming from standby.

Ugh.

Is there anyway at all that I could get a simple receiver and remote and somehow wire the monitors into it or something?
Something cheap + easy so these badboys will work out okay in dual screen.

Just never turn them off. They go into power save mode and shut themselves down when no signal is received. The "standby" yellow LED's will probably remain lit. But the monitor itself uses next to no power. Even cold to the touch.

Anyone tried running 720p signal into this thing? Does it maintain 16:9 ratio for that as well?

My main hardware concern about this thing is the buzzing that's often reported. Looks like Westy skimped on the power supply...

Pulled the trigger.
6 or so hours in freezing cold. Bought 2 of these bad boys.

Despite looking absolutely beautiful the one I'm typing on now has the screen door effect in the upper right quadrant as reported by some users on HardForum. I'll link to some pictures if anyone is interested.

It's quite subtle and I'm going to continue my tests after I get a nap. Since I bought them at BB I can get a new unit on the spot, so it's nice, but we'll see if I wanna risk the exchange 'cause I think that this one has zero dead/stuck pixels. We shall see later after I nap and do some more tests. Hehe.

Just noticed your post.
As per the buzzing sound.

It sometimes appears (unit to unit really) when the brightness is set below 100. However, the sound is BARELY audible at ALL. If you have music on, playing a game or any noise at all in your computer room/setup area you will not hear it at all.

I'll post later after I have a nap on the full tests along with some decent settings upon calibration. For what I paid this monitor is absolutely incredible.

More to follow, for those interested. Perhaps pictures, as well. Soon!

Thanks for the firsthand test reports. Can you try hooking up a cable box/DVR/console set to 720p-only output and see what happens?
