At my house we use these little ant-house things that they walk into, eat bait, then walk out of and die. Then we just vacuum up the carcasses.

Go down to china town and get some of that ant chalk stuff. Make an outline around where they are coming in, the ants will not cross the chalk!

Killing now with an exterminator will be better than waiting and they get a chance to dig in and nest. They probably haven't got a successful nest/colony going yet, just swarming.

If its termites, call an exterminator immediatly.

If its ants, get ant bait at walmart... $5 and theyre gone within 2 days.

Bullshit, I fucking hate ants. There's been countless times where I wander outside in my backyard without shoes on and accidentally step in a small fire ant hill and I get a swarm of biting fire ants all over my foot. My foot usually ends up twice its size until the swelling goes away.

As far as I'm concerned those little bastard ants can all die and I won't care. The more dead ants, the better. The black ones aren't too bad, but my property is particularly riddled with the fire ant variety, and no matter what I try, every year they keep coming back.

Bleach is good....but I highly recommend getting a 6 month Home Defense spray from Ortho or even the cheaper off brands. It will help keep other pests out as well....

So I got up this morning, went down to the kitchen, and holy mother of @$#% there's about 100 ants in there with me. Normal sized, black, winged ants. I put out solid ant bait, and they ignored it. I'm going to try the sugary terro stuff now, and I've sealed up their primary entry point (a vent on the floor) with duct tape, but that's obviously only a stopgap.

Also, they're not coming out of the vent itself, but the gaps between the vent and the floor, meaning they're under the @#$%ing floor. This would explain the random paratroopers that have been appearing all over the level, and even some in the basement.

Obviously I'm going to try every ant bait known to man, but is there anything else I can do short of an exterminator?

tetro didnt work for me. ants drank it like water. i've tried this for 2 yrs.

3rd year:
i created my homemade ant killer stuff w/10x more active ingrident than tetro.
ants drank it. no more ants for the entire summer. hoprefully i've killed the nest/queen.

we'll see this summer...

Nah, they're definitely ants. The pics don't show it, but they have 3 very distinct body segments. Nothing like the termite sketch in the pick. I've also seen termites when one of our fenceposts got infested. These are nothing like it.

Oddly enough, haven't seen any foragers/workers since the swarm. The kitchen's clean, but that didn't stop the last infestation from invading beneath the sink (different species, they sucked up the ant baits and presumably died)
